I put about 3-4 tanks of gas thru the 409 Corvair, rides really nice going straight down the road and even corners not too bad :)Mileage is terrible with the 3:89 gears but she has a HARD PULL in every gear;). Runs about 200 -210 degrees on the highway but cooler in town (which is strange) , been experimenting with a few things to get the temperature down a bit. I also need to get some kind of air filtering for the carbs,(I only have about 1" of room to work in) Weather here has been wet lately and I haven't been driving it but I still hope to get some kinda video made before the snow flies.

Someone said that they did not think that a 409 was used in boats. The engine pictured with twin turbos was in an offshore racer in the 60s that did very well. That is a great build that you have done. I salute you!!!!

  9. This thread is very interesting, with a 409.
Although I have not read each post, I hope this video has not already been attached here.

When I lived in Wisconsin years ago ,I worked at a shop where the wrecker had a 409 Mercruiser engine in it.When I knew what it was,I called the folks in Fond DuLac and asked if they had any parts left.No was the reply.

  19. Yeah, I just read through the whole thread because it came up, and it doesn't matter so much that the thread is dated anyway, what he did was fi*)&ing awesome.

I wonder why mr. 409 Corvair disappeared? Maybe he played chicken with a 421 Pontiac Tempest?

  23. Usually what happens is that the project stalls. Many reasons for that, no cash, no skills, no patience to name a few. Sometimes one of us gets too rude and they skate, and sometimes they just decide that its none of our business and keep it all a secrete after that.

Anyway no one really cares if we did we would make an attempt to contact them and ask.

I have lots of corvairs, maybe I should put my 409 in my spare rampside?

Go for it! I've always wanted a 67 Corvair with a Olds in the back. That was on my todo list but now I'm out of steam. So I live vicariously through guys (or girls) like Nasty1.

Hmmm, an Olds aluminum 215 might just be what a good little Corvair needs.
    Has anyone done that swap?
