552960B1-7B9D-4F4A-BD55-95A76866C75F.jpeg Well , I just bought a set of tires and wheels off of the net! They are six hole GM wheels, but after I bought them,( for my trailer) I got to thinking! Are all GM six hole wheels the same? Or did they change to metric like some of the others? And if so.... how can you tell the difference in them? Can anyone here help me? Thanks in advance!
Here are a pic of the wheels and tires.

I think the pattern is the same. Back spacing may vary, which can be an issue on a trailer especially. Keep in mind, this is just a WAG.....

  3. Those are like 96/98 K1500 wheels, The offset maybe wrong for a trailer and the tire rub the fender or frame. The studs was a metric 14 1.50 size and the wheels listed as 6x139.7 mm or a 5.5 inch circle.
The main thing was center holes made a difference on older/newer wheels fitting each other also offset in your case for a trailer.

    Measuring bolt patterns,,,

  4. If they happen to fit your trailer, Make sure to use the proper bulge seat wheel nut for those aluminum wheels..

I know the old early 60's 6 lug Chevy truck wheels were the same pattern as the old trailers as I used them on a 1961 Roamer trailer we had. I also found out recently that the newer Ford truck 6 lug is different than the newer GM. Well have you tried them yet?

the GM six lug wheels used on trucks are all 5.5" bolt pattern, I don't know what the FWD wheels are like (they used them on some FWD SUVs), or the Fords, I know the Dodge Dakota is a smaller pattern. Our Airstream trailer uses the same 5.5" bolt pattern on the six lug wheels.

I try to keep the later model wheels like that on later model trucks, and pretend they don't exist when I'm working on older stuff. Besides the godawful appearance, the offset is usually off far enough that they won't fit what I'm working on.

Fords are 135 mm circle. Just had some made at Wheelsmith that will take a 47 Ford cap for “too new” pick-up.

I did not get nuts with these wheels. I was thinking of getting some of those big 1/2 inch racing nuts, that take a ,about 1 inch wrench. Would those work? Thanks

I have not had a chance to try them on a trailer yet.

what size stud y0u have 1/2 or 9/16th?

  19. Bones,

Did a quick search.. If you going to use the center caps also here you go this way you can use the plastic cap to hold on the center caps..

    7/16 is 611-179

    1/2 inch is 611-178

    9/16 is 611-161

Are those Chevys part numbers? My caps snap in the wheel. They are not the kind that screw onto the lug nut. Do you have a price on those? Thanks ,

  21. From remembrance......... the bolt patter is the same with early = 60's,(trucks) to SOME modern day.....BUT, the lug seat has to be fitting to the wheels, Hence= new lug nuts for such. and thread of studs. Metric has come to be the game changer.....;)

I remember the old Chevy was the same as a Datsun pickup. Local guy put a set of late 70's Datsun pickup wheels on a 47 Chevy. Actually looked pretty good at the time..

There are many bolt patterns out there and it’s amazing what some wheels off a car will fit on other cars. Back in about 1965 I pulled a nine inch from a 58 big Mercury, to put under my MEL powered 55 Ford. I figured it was a Ford product, should have Ford bolt pattern. After I got it under there, my wheels wouldn’t fit! Seems like Big Merc’s back then were 5on 5! My ot Lincoln had 5 on 5! And all this time I thought that was GM!

This is interesting, and good to know! A few years ago I was looking for some standard steel wheel with this 6 x 5" pattern, to cut out the centers and weld to 12 or 13" outer rims, for a midget race car. This has long been a standard pattern for midgets and some sprint cars, but I concluded that there had never been a car with this pattern "back in the day". Eventually, I discovered its genesis; hubs from wood spoked Model T wheels!

  26. They are dorman numbers, Price isn't bad couple bucks each. Can be had at your local parts store.
The ones with out the external threads and a bit more cost effective as I say it.

Chevrolet used the same 6 lug pattern since forever. pre 49 passenger cars, and 49 - ?? trucks... got to be well into the 2000's at least. also the same pattern are older Toyota 4WD steel wheels and Datsuns
