Technical Flathead head id help

    Friend pulled a pair of these out of a barn. Only markings are 8.5 (compression ?) as shown.

    Does it look like the fins have been taken off?

    looks like cast iron, maybe never had fins

    These heads look like they could be Roof heads. Robert Roof did cast heads without any fins and without any name cast into them. Robert Roof was from Indiana. I believe most of his speed parts were cast pre war and I am not sure if any parts were cast after WW2.
