  2. Misused so much , it's almost mainstream : "front clip" for a sub frame that unbolts, or for a sheet metal nose ( a doghouse, in some parts of the U.S.). Also unbolts.
A "clip" is salvage yard talk for a section of sheet metal or frame that is sawed or torched off and sold.

Some of the junkyard "dawgs" I've encountered over the years definitely had their own language.

A good friend, who I also worked with for a few years, would insert "at the end of the day" into every third sentence he spoke. By the end of the day, we were ready to choke him.

  6. Then there's the new phrase where an adjective is used in place of a noun, like "I'm taking a biologic" Or like someone said earlier "I can't go because my girlfriend is being extra" Extra what??? A biologic what????
The TV ads for drugs do this.

Us "old people" had English class in school. Young people don't have a need to pronounce the letter "T" anymore. Even news people will say imporunt instead of important.

The HAMB is "woke"! Everyone is being very politically correct (or PC ?) by avoiding mention of the source of much of this language bastardization.

Back in the previous century, different parts of the country, spoke differently! Used different terms, different things meant different or the same thing. I ,for one , liked that difference! I used to fly all over the nation and being from the South, I talked different than the folks in the NorthEast, where I regularly found myself! Never had a problem with it, in fact, it was an ice breaker as we joked about each other’s accent and use of terms. If we were all the same, this would be a real boring world!

Still remember my mom always correcting me, "its whom you which to speak with not who". Or a former English teacher telling me "you can but may not".

  21. "It's not rocket surgery" Cute, but wonder how many don't get it.

    Hi Eagle,

I was just teasing Penetrator. :)
"Ellis" was a re-seller, not a manufacturer, as far as I know. He may have had some house brands. Not sure.

Also, it is Massachusetts, after all,

    thanks,

I usually just ghost on this forum since my skills are small to non-existent to automotive the work that you folks do. I am forever in awe. But use of English I can comment on.
The regional dialect issue is always fun; the Chicago patient was told by his Aussie nurse there were sending him home "to die". He was much taken aback! She assured him she just meant now, to-die not to DIE!
Then I heard a southern woman talking about how she had to go in the pee cup. I was thinking urine test but then realized they were going to drive in the PeeK Up!
