This is the CYCLONE V8 QC Case #16 that I spoke about above with the Gear Chart. You can get an idea of how much material is in the cases construction, a little more than most. Also the rear cover has much more material, so I’m kind of curious how narrow those A QC Change Gears were to be able to break/fracture a rear cover w/o making a whole lot of noise doing it. The design of a QC does make for a pinion to want to exit out the back end, that’s why we didn’t mess with Ford V8’s differential design by using a very expensive double tapered roller bearings and race. Has a snap ring that holds in the race on the inside bore and set screws on the outside of the case.

  2. I would laugh when Richie Evans came to Islip. They rarely touched a bolt on the car, they would unload and practice, throw on some fresh rubber for the race. The crew was sly... they would put a set of QC gears out on the back deck of the modified with the box open and walk away. Sure as anything, there would be a parade of other pit crew members that HAD to see what gears Evans was going to swap in... the word was spread, get your 4.33 gear sets out... then at the last minute someone on Evans' crew put the gears untouched back on the trailer.

Weeelllll, I still wrench on " roundy round cars and we change them frequently. With two men on the job it CAN be done in about three minutes but that is with an impact wrench and a pail of gear oil with a FAST pump on it and a good pair of oil and heat resistant gloves....

The Model A gears are 1 inch think and the V8 1 3/8 if I remember right. Did you use a spacer to make up the difference?

This what quick changes are for. We change them for the size of the track and track conditions. Along with changing the tire pressure according to track conditions C667BE7B-79ED-433D-8F5B-386FD3247471.jpeg C667BE7B-79ED-433D-8F5B-386FD3247471.jpeg C667BE7B-79ED-433D-8F5B-386FD3247471.jpeg

I have one in my roadster. As mentioned it takes about 15 minutes to swap them out. When I put the car together I had 3:48's in it. After I sorted out the Borg Warner overdrive and got that working reliably I swapped in 4:11's. I've been toying with the idea of going a little lower, maybe 4:30, just to see how it does around town, but it seems really happy now for all around driving.

It would be neater if I had all the parts. I need the main shaft and the shifter hub. Warren's parts interchanged with Halibrand, which is the case I have.
