    If that's a 5 then build date would be December 1 1965.

What it looks like to me is a truck housing and somebody has swapped in a differential from a Galaxie, Fairlane or some other Ford car.

Nine inch — see the goggle site listed above. Easy to tell if you look at the video. An eight inch has a flat spot on the top and the case has no ribs in the upper case.

So...when you take off the wheels, how wide is it, from wheel mounting surface to wheel mounting surface (drum to drum)? Inquiring minds want to know.

I’m guessing it’s a pickup rear. Here’s my 66 Bronco rear, had a big drain plug. It’s the best picture I can get right now.

I've got one that's still in a bare 69 Bronco frame. It definitely does not have a pinion snubber. And it definitely measures 58" from WMS to WMS.

Mine was bought new by a defense contractor whose security guards used it for patrolling the plant site. Someone left it idling when they went into a buiilding to eat lunch and it had an engine fire. I bought the remains in 73 for $50 when they were auctioning off a bunch of stuff as the Viet Nam war was beginning to wind down. None of that is of any significance other than to say the rear axle is an original example and not some mish mash of parts.

One thing on mine that I've never seen on another early Bronco is that it has 16" tubeless wheels that are either 5 or 5.5 inches wide. All the others I've seen had 15" wheels.

no point in having a pinion snubber on a Bronco, The differential is over a foot away from the floor. The third member in question is more than likely from a 65-66 Ford car and the housing is early to mid-60's pickup.

So what would I identify this rear as?
It’s an early housing with a 65 diff.
    At 61” long.
    That’s makes it from what??
What would the common gears be?

You can count turns to figure out the ratio. Being an early 60s truck, expect something around high threes to low fours for the ratio.

I have one of those. Round back, came out of a 64 station wagon. Had nice big brakes on it too. 5 x 5 bolt pattern.

I think we knew that would happen.

OP....only you know with your car if a different offset wheel will work.

Now that we know you have a tape measure, start putting it to use.

My experience with 40 Fords The Bronco and Scout Ii rear axles are both 58 WMS to WMS and work great using 7 to 8 inch rear wheels with 0 to .5 inch offset. A 57 Chevy rear is 60 inches and work well with 6 to 7 inch wheels with 0 offset. My 40 runs either 6 inch F100 wheels or 7 inch Old Real Americans with 1/2 positive offset. They are close to the fender inside radius just about the wheel width limit IMO.Here are some pics with 58 inch rear and above mentioned wheels. A 61 inch rear would severly limit wheel choices. Yeah, it looks like you'll be fine, as long as you get wheels that will fit. We don't know if you are looking to run skinny or wide wheels, what tires, etc. The post above should get you started, though.

If it's too wide, you can always narrow it. Like was suggested earlier, set up the wheel and tires you want to run under the fenders where you want them, then measure from the back wheel mounting surface on each wheel. That will give you the width you need.

Even if you have to narrow it, it's still a good deal. 9" rears are getting hard to find. Good thing is you can buy everything you need from axles to bearings and seals to make it work like you want it to.
