I’ve always loved this era, with all the massive experimental cars built by privateer drivers, all trying to win at all cost with apparently total disregard for personal safety.

With your car you’re carrying on that tradition magnificently, but hopefully without the dangerous bit!

    It feeds my needs :D

I’m building a 1928 Chevy racer in similar style but quite a lot smaller, and am at the point where I have to shorten and adapt the tourque tube and drive shaft, something like the way you’ve done yours.

So could you explain how you stopped the solid shaft from bending when you welded it in the middle please?

I understand you made the cut ends cone shaped, but did you make a bore in one end and a spigot in the other then press together before welding, or use some other method?

What type of welder did you use, MIG, TIG, or Oxy acetylene?

I think a torque tube is much safer than an open drive shaft in this sort of car, and it’s wise to keep it, but because of the extra strain on the UJ, do you intend to put a safety hoop around the end of the tourque tube in case
    the UJ breaks up?

Thanks for showing us your work, it’s very inspiring!

Here’s a pic of my ’28 Chevy Racer as it so far, except it now has two exhaust pipes all along the side, one above the other.

love that, great job! I'm hoping to get myself a '28 Chevy motor for a racer project in the next month. Have you got a build thread for this car?

282doorUK, that's a cool Chevy. Any update on the Seagrave? Starting to go through withdrawals...

Great job! I love the skinny shape!
The solid driveshaft was welded in a big lathe, with constant alignment conference.
    Thanks!

I've been following your impressive build from the start. Not sure if this has been asked. Are you building this monster for your evil intentions or is there a small king (customer) that needs an ego boost?

  22. Man, i love a good restoration as much as a good hot rod/custom build. Pretty cool build going on over there. But, honestly, i don't know how you can possibly get anything done, with all those Brazilian women just outside your door

Now we’ll cut a 6mm stainless steel plaque to make the base to the clocks.
