Here is an edited version of that picture just in case. It was cleaned up by my friend @jnaki

Wow very cool. That’s the same one that we saw pictures of on this thread before.

I really like the car and remember it but would like to know if it ever ran in A/G. Early Vettes that ran in A/G are a bit rare. Pretty tough to make class in NHRA unless they threw out a whole bunch of weight- not sure a Vette with anything resembling a stock frame would make class. Maybe in another sanctioning body I suppose. Still cool no matter what.

I was referring to the 1966 Coupe in post # 5694
The other red Coupe was a 65 396 Corvette. Not sure of the lettering on the 65. It may be faux lettering done recently.

Jim you are right about a corvette running A/G, in my opinion someone added that classification to embellish the status of the car, it also doesn't seem to match the rest of the lettering. If I remember correctly A/G was 5-6# per cu. in.

Could be any place in suburbia USA, before the were investments and you went to the local speed shop to buy a new manifold or mag wheels. Things were simple, even though the Vietnam war was going on the hot rodders still outnumbered the restorers and the only restos happened on old cars like Packards and Duesenbergs and model T's. When you could get stuck out on the road and didn't have a dime for the pay phone.

Pat you are correct on the weight breaks for A/G. The first year that Vettes ran in gas was 68 (for the most part) and the weight break was as you stated. My 61 Vette ran in A/G at the 1973 Gatornationals in that same weight break but the car has a tube chassis with a BBC and so it was pretty easy to make class. I keep looking for more A/G Vettes and there were some but they were a bit rare.

You are probably correct that some feel that it may "embellish" the status but I am not one of them. When the guys get the class correct is when I am impressed but I may be in the minority. Most big blocks ran in B/G and most small blocks ran in D/G (of course with some exceptions for guys playing with weight added or subtracted, I suppose).

Jason, Teddy Boschma in the far lane. Still trying to figure out the near lane. Boschma ran an injected 427.

  20. That was the summer of 1985 in my parent’s front yard. The mustang was my brother’s college beater, the camaro was my senior year of high school cruiser. The vette was Dad’s, we had just got it going after a 20 year nap. It’s the car in my avatar.

Very cool Scotty. It looked to me just like I remembered on LI in 1970.

The "Huff" corvette looks like it said CM/SP on it, hell that's not sexy enough let's make it a "Gasser" and sell it as such. Wall street doesn't know what a CM/SP is. LOL

Jason, it has spindle mounts which probably indicates it made a few trips down the track. If it has some history, I for one would appreciate hearing about it. Cool car that is certainly reminiscent of the era IMO. Certainly looks better with the wheelwells put back into shape. I copied pics when it was on ebay as well.

Scotty the car brings back memories of how they looked in the 60s. I do not remember too many with the wide whites but then again I don't have a perfect memories of the 50s either. Probably my favorite combination, black with silver coves.

  24. There weren’t a lot of those cars around in our area at the time. We did our part!:D

Pat had physical therapy this morning so taking it easy for a bit. The rest allowed me to eat my words on whether it ran in A/G. I looked to find my old ebay file on the car and can see they removed some of the heavy front cradle and suspension and also removed the center cross member and put some light weight tubing in it.

If they removed 200 lbs they could make class and apparently they did remove enough weight. The spindle mounts got me thinking. I am glad to eat my words as I now know there is another A/G early Vette out there that deserves to be noted. Here are some pics off of ebay that prove it was an A/G car (when it wanted to apparently as it also ran B/G).

With those three extremely different street machines, that could
be a photo taken in the small town where I grew up, when we hung at Dog 'N Suds
and there was a '65 Mustang parked next to a '64 Biscayne parked next to a '57 Chevy
parked next to a '68 Z-28 parked next to a T-bucket and so on and so on. There was
no segregation and no one told you to get in your ride and get lost because your
car didn't fit in. Great pic as far as I'm concerned.

I'm not bitching about the H.A.M.B. so no one jump on my shit. I'm just saying
that we dug cars, not just certain cars built a certain way. If you had a cool car
    you belonged.

Thanks Bruce, I've been thinking about doing a build thread even though it's almost 30 years since I started.
