We just looking @tudorfritz awesome thorough build with his E brake location it looks great away from your and passengers knees ,but how is it to reach with 3 pedals and a hill start? We have thought about the original style bolted to a T5 , also floor mounted. Trying to keep the 28 sedan traditional . Any thoughts appreciated.
Put the original hand brake on the side of my T5 in my 32 PU.In the forward off postion its largely out of the way.
Here is a pic of a stock model A handle mounted to the side of my top loader with Lokar guts from the mount back.
We had thought of a 37 type hanging brake but as soon as we held one in the car we realised it wanted to occupy the same space as your right foot in RHD.
I prefer if possible my E brake handle to be kinder hidden between the 2 buckets seats I have in two hot rods. It is more the pull up type similar to many small cars from the 60's and 70's. One I have used was from a small Mazda 808 and the other a Ford Cortina 1600.
I cut out a notch in seat base so I could get it back as far as possible. Sent from my ZTE R84 using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
You could use one of these accessory handbrake extensions, if you mount the lever lending forward against the fire wall with the brake off all that sticks out is the extension knob. Ideal to get the lever out of the way and easy to reach the knob to pull on or release.
I did have this extension in my stash ,but I cant figure out how this one works as the bracket and pivot don't seem in the correct place to depress the release button. Its got the the nice swoopy look though, any thought on how it works?
I used the modern type & when it's down, there is no interference with the passenger...not like I'd actually have a passenger.
I made a bracket for the top of the T5 using the shifter mounting bolts. Very simple and it dosent seem to bother my passengers. Chappy
I used the handbrake out of a '79-'93 Mustang in my T roadster. Works great and completely out of the way, even in the cramped T interior!
Not saying it’s been altered but if your mount was reversed, take out the cross pin and reverse it, then it should mount up as the ones I have. I have a few and they are all the same as the pic I posted. No idea at all how yours could possibly work? Chris
This turkey appears to have the original pivot pin. If it were reversed to holding clamp still covers the button . But you would be on the right track to getting it to function , as long as you can retain the spring function. These accessories are quite rare down under . Always hopeful I will find one for sale.
You don’t need to retain the spring function, the handbrake button assembly has its own spring to do that job, none of the ones I have use a spring.
Yep you are correct Barrelnose , I guess in this case the spring in the handle serve no purpose as there is a spring under the release button. Still will keep an eye out for a better extension handle.
Looking at that again,it’s got me stumped as to how that could even work as the spring in the handle of your unit is set to pull the lever down, not up as you would expect to take pressure off the button. I just spent an hour trying to make sense of it, coming up with F all. Still, plenty off time to kill lately. I’d really like to know how it could/would work?
Yep @Barrelnose pickup I pondered for a good while then forgot about it till now. Its an original oddball weirdo , just like us. Hopefully our spare time is coming to a safe end here.
Yeah, a certain bloke we know is probably sick of sanding window sills in the Hutt. Things are expected to lighten up here shortly also.
