Technical Any New Year's Resolutions For 2020?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by The Shift Wizard, Dec 30, 2019.

  1. Hmm..2020 resolutions?..Less stress in my life, starting with no New Years resolutions.
More of the same, it's gotten me this far in life.

Finish the AC in my 52 (avatar) and drive it in 95 degree weather with my arm out the open window. Happy new year everyone.

This one reminds me of a one-liner by a character played by that old-time comic, Sid Ceasar; he said: "I'm going to quit drinking, first chance I get".[/QUOTE]

Yeah, I don't drink anymore. Problem is, I don't drink any less either.

I know I am getting ready to say a bad word. But I am going to do my best to get my wife's '67 Camaro done. It's been painted for five years now. And I have put my buddies Anglia, my uncle's '32 Ford and my nephew's El Camino in front of it. It's time. Hope everyone has a happy and safe new year!

  6. I got nuthin. To be realistic I am happy with ,myself as I am and anything else would (hot rod stuff) is just out of reach.

  7. I was thinking of doing the same thing but my neighborhood is pretty nice with decent people. That seems like a rare thing nowadays. So I guess I’ll put up with the high taxes for a while.

  8. To give the roadster a thorough wash and deep cleaning. I've become just too damn lazy lately...

    1. Try not to have any more operations.
    2. Buy more car parts I don't need.
    3. Help Earl paint his truck.
    4. Be nicer to wife.
    5. Sell about 20 or 30 parts cars.
    6. Figure out where to put up more bookshelves.
    7. Order another set of Arias slugs so I can put together another 283'' GMC.
That should keep me busy til June ...

  12. Realistically, I probably won't set out any resolutions for 2020, but just keep muddling through my rather boring existence.

    Hello,

The old year is over and the new year is now in session. We have been making almost the same resolution for the both of us since we saw each other in college. “Have a happy life…” (we have and we are planning, too.) Things pile up in our extended families and we make do with what we have to offer. We lead a simple life and not too much bothers us living in So Cal all of our lives. It is a great place to live and get along with others. Once the core of So Cal living gets into your “being,” there is not much else that can change it.

For us, spending more time with our granddaughter is the utmost. In a fast, few years, she will be gone across the country to her choice of colleges. That is 2800 miles away from home. But, the choice was hers, at the present time and it looks, pretty much, set in stone. If we look back to our 14 year old days, what was set in stone? College? It was mentioned by my mom, but never set in stone.

I was offered several scholarships to Eastern colleges, but that was a long way from the ocean and great surfing. Drag racing, cruising, hot rods, drive-in scene, high schools, surf trips, etc, was our world. We never thought there was a future ahead of us, at the time.

Hot rodding was set in stone and since I was my brother’s maintenance apprentice, I wanted to build a hot rod for my self and race it at Lions Dragstrip. It was a healthy goal for a young teenager. Our likes, the early culture, the car scene, and stories filtering out of Bixby Knolls made an impact on our future. It all looked inviting and who thought of life beyond high school? (Let alone 58 years and two generations cropping up.)

Bomb shelters along Lakewood Blvd, the tension between governments, we all saw and read about them, but that was about it. Our attention was to the latest stuff out of Joe Mailliard’s Speed Shop or the latest development from Reath Automotive. Long Beach, as well as our own neighborhood, was center for us and it seemed to revolve around hot rods/drag racing and surfing. Was it leading us to a specific path in our lives?

The new year will bring good tidings and joy if things go as planned. But the best laid plans sometimes go off center and cause some difficulties. So, my wife and I look forward to spending the last years of teenage high school activities (three years for our granddaughter) and culture of the 2023 class, as long as it lasts.

When our son left for college, it was approximately 160 miles away and weekend visits were a snap. But, 2800 miles East, is a whole new world away in a different climate and neighborhood. Maybe it will change during the “official time” for college visits in the Junior, 11th grade year.

Well, at least that is put off for 2 years until a new idea pops up or the college visits start happening. For us, we will just grow old gracefully and be at peace. As far as my wife’s idea of the new year, our cars give us some “potential” for growth. That means sell, trade, buy or upgrade (6 years and 15 years old daily drivers) the in women’s purchasing schemes. But, not our house. We are locked in forever.

In listening to some old songs from our files, the words from a Joe Walsh song rings true.

Life’s Been Good... Joe Walsh (paraphrasing the lyrics with some similarities)

“…They say I'm crazy but I have a good time
I'm just looking for clues at the scene of the crime

Life's been good to me so far
Lucky I'm sane after all I've been through
(Everybody say I'm cool, they’re cool)

I can't complain but sometimes I still do
Life's been good to me so far
    Everybody's so different, I haven't changed

They say I'm lazy but it takes all my time
(Everybody say oh yeah, oh yeah)

I keep on going, guess I'll never know why
Life's been good to me so far.”

    HAPPY NEW YEAR !

I’m with parts dawg... I gotta get rid of some s- - t. 45 years of collecting GMC and Bonneville stuff I thought I might need has cluttered up my life way too much. Trouble is it’s all too heavy and I’m getting to old to move it. 7 sets of mounted tires doesn’t help either.

Think of resolutions for new year. True to form break any I've made and quite possibly break a few of the 10 commandments while I'm at it. :)

First...Happy New Year to all hambrs..i am turning 60 years old this year and plan on keeping the "pedal to the metal"...plan on making this year better than previous years..
I have been into cars since i was a kid, having a older brother was a lowrider in the 60s-70s era, to pave the way made it easy.I took shop classes in wood ,printing, metal, auto, and there was even a class called "batchelor living"which i must say was the best shop class cause all we did was play house!..mostly remember the food fights..but what had an impact on me was my metal shop teacher, who was WW2 VETERAN..he had a 1932 ford cabriolet roadster he drove to school/work everyday..He shared experiences of his life always but what caught my attention was when he brought up his racing on Bonneville with his 32..so many stories..that was my initial exposure to hot rods..all this in junior high school!..in high school ,i took auto shop all 3 years. The instructor was a weekend racer and would allow students to bring in their cars on fridays if u maintained grades, cool incentive..thats where i met guys who would modify the bodies on their Impalas,Camaros, pickups,Vans, etc.and when i got exposed to customizing..Anyway..i've run off the the subject..get on ur resolutions and never stop going abd taking on projects in life..

  20. I don't make resolutions, I am aware that I can't possibly achieve the lofty goals set for a new year, there are many things I could say but the likelihood of me following through is nothing but wishful thinking.

I just want to continue trying to be the best husband, father, grandfather that I can be, in 2019 my family has experienced some amazing high's and on the other end of the spectrum some divesting low's but we got through them together.

I also want to continue to be the friend that is there when needed and treat my friends and fellow hamber with respect.

I'm just thankful to be given another year to enjoy Family, friends and my long time love of Hot Rods & Custom cars. HRP

Been lurking here awhile. Maybe my first post. 2020 goal? Clear the deck of some other projects and start making the pile of rusty stuff in the spare bedroom back into a car.
