Hey Guys, I have an old 50 Ford 2 dr.- been sittin over 30 years. I see it has a pull release to open the hood on the inside of the car, problem is the cable is frozen up! Before I tear up something I thought I might ask if anyone knows of a simply way to get it open I've never had or even been around one of these. Looks to be a flat head 8. I have it listed in cars for sale but I would like to get the hood open and check it for sure can't get under it very good. Thanks for any help Guys
I seem to remember HRP went through something like that a while back. I don't remember what he had to do to get under the hood again but I do know that one of the first things I did to the shoebox I just bought was to hook up a wire to the hood latch in case that happened to me. From what I remember, it doesn't look like easy access with the hood down.
The only way to open the latch without damaging anything is to remove the Grill and make a Hook to get the tab the cable pull connects to. If you look close at the photo you'll see my back up release. Ask me why I had to figure this out. No you can't get it done from under the latch panel either.
Hey Guys- after reading what you told me I decided I couldn't hurt the cable or handle any so I went and put a big vise grip on so I could get a better hold of it, put some spray on what I could waited about 30 min and after about 5-8 hard pulls I felt it come forward, did it come loose or did it brake the line I wondered. So I went up front and hurray the hood was loose! The drivers side hinge was pretty froze so more spray and a little prying and it will open. Even a better surprise is a flathead V-8 all unmolested. Thanks for the information guys. I'll try and add some photos of the engine.
3 speed overdrive ought to keep it for parts, V8 3 speed w/ overdrive what could be better. Running ha ha
