If your Fenders are Fat, Hoods are where it's at...sez no one but me.

On skinny or no-fender rods, even with Killer mills, at least a hood top will carry the original style lines fore and aft. (AND show how much trouble you went thru to align your grill shell with your cowl.)

So let em bend over to take a peek...at least you'll keep some of the weather off that beast.

I live and drive my stuff in places where it rains at times. At least a hood top is a requirement for me, but then the motor has to look good. Open sides, or no hood rides need to have the right look to start with and once you get past the mid 30s, having the right look to be hoodless gets pretty hard.

No one wants to see my coupe without the hood. Gene

Gene's got it, mid 30's can go either way, from mid 30's on need a hood to fill the body lines out.
On a hoodless car, I like to see the top of the induction system, air cleaners or scoops, just below or just above the cowl. To me, a car looks funny without at least a hood top if the carbs don't go above the middle of the firewall. It makes the engine look smaller if it isn't sitting tall and proud.

Moriarity... the engine in your 40 look so good, you really should leave the hood off sometimes.
    Bodylines be damned.

One of my favorite parts of a hot rod is being able to see a nicely detailed engine. The heart of the beast... the jewel in its setting.

Sometimes I even like seeing the later cars without hoods. Depends. They can look badass or a little goofy. I recently saw a picture of a '49 to '54 model... I forget what it was... that had only the very front portion of it's hood. Had a nice engine to show off. I thought it looked pretty good.

My 30 pickup, I like it hoodless, though I might get a 1 piece hood to run with no side sheets, for road trips.

No hood for now. Building a top with a bubble for carb clearance. 28 Roadster.jpg

No hood. Picked up the top half and I’m going to try it out to see once I do the work needed and paint it.

But for now, we flaunt that flathead.

Some may say it’s not a hot rod. But it doesn’t have a hood! Tons of fun to drive!
