Does anyone have one of these lowered over the stock size tires front and rear? I'm not sure I want do a rubber rake. Pictures would be great! Thanks
Your pics aren't working. Biggest issue with lowering it is making sure you have clearance on the front fenders to turn.
They're showing up on my end? Let me see what the hell I did wrong. It's been a while since I've posted any pics.
the way that thing sits now, I think I would start with putting either a reversed eye front main leaf in the spring, or just swapping it out with a Posies reversed eye 2 inch drop front spring. I would not do a new stock spring with a reversed eye because its almost guaranteed to sit at the same height your at now, or higher. All these old ford springs have sagged over time, these have been doing their job for 80 years so they are lower than original already. If you want to drop the rear down some, start with set of 41 rear shackles. they are a little longer and will typically drop it about an inch. I'd do that first, then you can see if you want it down more in the front or rear or both. The next step would be a dropped front axle and adjusted steering arms to match. But I think you might be pleasantly surprised with how it sits with just springs and shackles swapped out.
Here is my 39 for comparison. It has a posies 2 inch drop reverse eye front spring on a 4.5 inch total drop 36 front axle with 5.60 x 15 front tires up front and a 2 inch dropped reverse eye spring and 41 shackles with 7.0 x 16 tires on the rear.
What size tires? Dropped axle and longer rear shackles was the plan for mine, but I think I'll need a smaller front tire.
Do you happen to have a pic of that car from the back with those tires? I have a brand new set of 6.00x16 www and I was thinking of trying a larger rear with the 6.00 in the front, but I'm betting I need shorter on the front with a dropped axle.
here is a shot from the rear. I picked the 7.0 x 16 tire in the rear because I like how it fills the wheel opening in the fender, although it is a tight fit to get it in and out of the fender. I studied a bunch of cars and took notes on which size tire they had on them to decide which ones I wanted to put on mine.
I have a 4" drop axle from Sid's Nostalgia axle.with a posies front spring. The rear is a stock spring with an Old Yankee reverse eye main leaf. I'm running 550-16 and 700-16 in this pic
