From the original poster "How about posting some photos of unusual old engine photos, like flathead V-12's or flathead Cadillacs.

So I'm guessing the old engines I have been posting are ok with HIM :)

It looks like it may have had fuel percolation issues...

DOHC 4 (not sure which displacement... maybe 91 or 106??) with a big honkin' supercharger on the back. Meyer & Drake put together something like this one for AAA racing.

If that is a pre-war Alfa Romeo Supercharger, I may have some interesting info on that particular engine... PM me, please!!

That is a Meyer & Drake supercharger, that is a descendant of a Miller supercharger. Before he passed away Parker was restoring the Miss Los Angels boat that had 110 CI with this supercharger. It was driven by a stack of gears from the back of the engine using special crank case. When Stuart Van Dyne took over Drake Engineering, he got all the patterns they had and may have the pattern for this supercharger.

XXL: MY BAD : wrong brand : Is that a MASERATI supercharger, like off a '39 or'40 that could have run at Indy? I got excited & got my brands mixed-up.

Did anybody on here know who bought the Briscoe v8 that was for sale earlier. I think it was on eBay. I would like to be in touch as I will be rebuilding one this winter.

It sounds like that 3-valver superceeded Ford's 3-valve "Calliope" Le Mans engine - but not by much...

Guys I have to tell you I've enjoyed this thread beyond words. Isn't it sad that in this day and age of CADCAM, engineering advances and machining brilliance we haven't had people create engines like the ones in this thread. Where are the guys to outdo Miller, the Duesenbergs, even the guys who designed the R4360?

Some absolutely extraordinary things ARE being done out there... 12k RPM V8's, 16.5 liter big blocks, V12 "LS" engines, etc. The 'down under' folks are extracting 1400+ hp out of their Barra inline 6's, same for the folks in Brazil with their Chevy 6's, and lots of folks running 100# of boost or more (that is NOT a typo) in billet-block engines of all shapes and sizes.

    Now... back to era-correct cool.

I've seen pics of this car elsewhere. I wonder how it ran? It looks like the rear tires are bigger (wider) than the front. That seems counter-intuitive to me since the weight transfer to the rear would dictate that the front tires would break loose before the rears. How would that monster be to drive with the fronts unhooked??? Maybe the front engine was detuned to keep it hooked up???

The car was Noel Black’s built for Bonneville, seen testing here at Fremont. Black later died in the car at Bonneville.
