Projects Seagrave 531 V12 Special BuiLd Up in Brazil

There was one of these in a short nosed tractor for the Evanston, Wyoming ladder truck that I found in a junkyard 4 years ago. Low mileage, like a lot of fire equipment, but it had been sitting outside for a while, and looked like it. They got it running, and sold it to someone for 5k. The engine was more or less mid-mounted in that one. Cool project, Doctor, thanks for sharing.

My memory is returning!
In the early '80s a friend asked me if I wanted to buy
an old fire engine, early '50s.. I turned it down, "too many projects"
I sold it for him to a Volunteer fire company.
I just rememberd it had a Pierce Arrow V12 flathead.
Maybe another source for distributor parts etc.

 

Meanwhile we made a ultra beefy engine chassis transverse support and inner lateral reinforcements to bolt to the 1926 Buick chassis.

Looks like the cylinders are spread pretty far apart. Why is that, D?

When you say "spread apart", do you mean the angle between the cylinders or the distance between bore centers?

I was referring to the distance between bore centers and what looks to be a fair amount of material or lots of room for coolant between the cylinders.

This is, a very cool thread. Something just a little different yet appropriate to the HAMB. I'm going to watch this one for sure.

 

The 1926 Buick front axle was revised and received new bushes.
We made new front springs and put everything together again.

Agreed. This is nonsense of the best variety. The chassis looks spectacular.

 

Heads were cleaned and inspected.
Then they were re surfaced.

Looking forward to the build. Would have liked to have seen some pics of the engine in the Monarca. Love the interior of that car. Very cool design outside as well. Keep up the great work.

We decided to maintain all the mechanical brakes of the 1926 Buick chassis.
So we made all new bushes and fittings for the system.

The special front cross member which serves as the front engine support was cross drilled to fit the chassis with special steel bolts.

Our standard operating procedure was to make the run on both ignition systems. But check the truck at 8 am, by switching to each system at a time to make sure both systems were operating properly. Not sure if it was recommended by Mack or not, but it’s what we did successfully, since 1956.
