Okay, I have to admit to some carb ignorance; I have always had Holley 4 barrels on my cars and don't have much experience with others. My '41 Chevy sedan (SBC 283) has a 4 barrel carburetor on it that I am having trouble identifying. It clearly has "Weber" cast into the side of the carb body but the only Weber 4 barrels I can find are 'marine' applications and don't look like this one. The numbers stamped in the carb base don't look anything like the other Weber ID numbers I have seen online either. While at a car show yesterday, I happened to look at a truck that has a SBC in it and the carb was (or looked to me like) an identical match to mine BUT it was an Edelbrock carb. Now I am thoroughly confused.... can anyone enlighten me on what this carb is? It's an Edelbrock carb. The 1403 number is the quick clue... https://www.summitracing.com/parts/edl-1403
Could be. I'm a bit fuzzy on the whole Carter/Weber/Edelbrock history. I know they all made basically the same carb, and I've seen Weber name on carbs with both the Carter and Edelbrock part numbers.
One of the clones produced for Federal Mogul after FM bought Carter about 1985 and redesigned the AFB. Weber/USA was one of the companies that produced the units for FM. Jon.
Thanks for the quick replies folks, I appreciate the information! Lol, I knew it wouldn't be easy... So it is a Carter, built by Weber that is the same as an Edelbrock..... did I get that right? I can get gaskets for an Edelbrock 1403 and they will work properly?
@squirrel I followed that link, it is identical to that Edelbrock! Thanks for the help- I'm off to get gasket!
Jim, are you off the witness protection program?! Like the new avatar, might start a new trend on here.
"Carburetor Identification Help Needed" Yep. That's a carburetor allright! Tip the veal, try the waitress!
