Technical 50 Merc engine color

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by BLUSHU, Aug 22, 2019.

  1. I have a 50 Ford coupe that was restored about 30 years ago.
I talked to the original owner about what he did to the car when he owned it.
He said the block was garbage in the car when he got it.
It was replaced as a short block & the original color green is still on the block.
The heads, intake, water pumps & front cover are all the original red.
Curious if this could be a Merc block.?
    I appreciate any input.

It could be, but Ford car and truck engines were also green in '52-'53. The only way to know for sure is to measure the stroke.

  3. Green was a pretty standard color on 'factory rebuilt' short and long blocks back in the day. Look for a rebuilder tag.

Times 2 on what V8 Bob said. 4 inch stroke for a Merc.

  5. Thanks guys.
It runs pretty good so not going to tear it down to check stroke.
I'll just drive it & worry about what it is, if & when I break it.

  6. I'm pretty sure there is a Paxton supercharged 302 in its future.
I'll let the next guy worry about what it is.
