Event Coverage Woodward/Flint Cruise

Well I made it to Mi finaly after being gone for 37 years.
Going to goto Flint today for the swap meet and possibly there Cruze on Saturday also.
Will do the Woodward Cruze for sure.
Watching the news this morning it is calling for rain Saturday and Sunday, we shall see what happens.
Unfortunately I am a spectator this year. But I will not let that stop me from having a GOOD TIME !
Will post pics of H.A.M.B. friendly cars as I go, hope others do the same.

Now my first nite here I am staying at Dads place here in Waterford, the old neighborhood hasn't really changed much.There is a bunch of motor heads in the hood I already meet. One has a A build going on with a V8 flatty wide 5 wheels juice brakes and a muncie 4 gear. Has a long way to go but a decent start. There was a 62ish skylark running around with some sort of v8 swap in it.
I know one thing I dont miss about this state, The freaking RUST !
It's a wonder how some cars still drive down the road.

Wish me luck at the swap meet needing a hood for my project.

 

I'll be on Woodward also... Today through Sunday... Can't wait!

 

I hit the drive-n on Wed in Gd Blanc (Flint) and cruised yesterday for a bit. It's way too crowded, contruction ALL over (again and still). The police presence is huge. Haven't seen or heard of any problems yet but it's early and it is, afterall, Flint. I'm headed out of town Fri morn for a while just to get away. Have fun!

I went up yearly to Woodward until 2013.
Just not the same. Corporate reserve so many of the old hang outs. You used to be able to park in the lot on 13 mile until Friday , then they would kick you out so Chrysler could set up which was understandable but then it got to be you couldn't even part there on Thursday.
The station across the street only has so much room, same with the SUNOCO station.
I did do Back to the Bricks in Flint one year, that was pretty nice. We used to rent the Taco Bell lot for our group to park.
I guess Im just getting old and grumpy

 

I had heard how great the Woodward cruise was back in the day and I was there in 2014 and there are thousands of cars but I was a little disappointed with the lack of hot rods & customs, being it is Detroit I bet I saw at least a 100 brand new Challengers, it seemed at ever stop light there was another one.

Obviously there is DeLorean C.C. as about 12 drove by nose to tail with their gull wing doors open, and I saw a few Dodge and Plymouth super stock cars

And thousands of daily drivers parading up and down the road, maybe in the morning is not the time to attend, the people I was with are originally from that area and they kept telling me that it's nothing like it was back in the 60's.

The night time cruising in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee has far more cars & trucks that would appeal to the average hamber.

I'm not knocking the Woodward Cruise it just wasn't what I expected, I was there for the '54 Ford Club of America convention and The hospitality of the people we met was amazing, a local Church allowed us to park in a secure area.

One thing that I didn't understand is we stopped at a local deli/sandwich shop and had a great meal but they didn't sell coffee, walked down the street to a service station and they didn't have it ether, where we stayed in Novi the restaurant around the corner from the motel had a fantastic breakfast and their coffee was in a cup as big as a cereal bowl! HRP

 

If anyone feels the need for a break...I work at Al Serra Chevy in the parts dept in Gd Blanc. Stop on in! We have a great group of guys here...

Went cruising the old neighbor today somethings changed most didnt. Was cool to kind of reminisce.

Did goto Woodward for a few hours this afternoon rush hr traffic was the norm.

Was a number of post H.A.M.B. friendly cars driving around, but I guess it isnt the "big" day yet so what am I to expect right..

There was a number of people parked in different lots and in lawn chairs trying to catch glimpses.

Will go back tomorrow afternoon again.

Did see this wicked 63 1/2 Galaxy sporting a SOHC front plate. And tear drop hood.
Tell yas it a BiOtch to get pics when they driving by at 45mph.



And it sounded just so WICKED.


There was number of other cars just couldn't get a snap shot...

The WX is saying going to be a hot mofo this weekend upwards of 90 it did get a bit on the warm side for me today also.

 

Did notice they have signs posted for cruzers stay 2 right lanes and thru traffic 2 left lanes. We shall see how well that holds up.

13 and Woodward SW corner is all new and next to the Beaumont Hospital. We ate at the newly opened Walhburgers restaurant Wednesday eve and it was packed. All of the shoulders of the road facing Woodward are blocked off. The parking lot will probably fill up early over the next few days...

 

I gotta get there early tomorrow and Saturday.... Hope I can find a good spot to park my car and plant my ass in a fold out!...

I took a ride up Woodward last night ... in my 53 ... I'm so glad that commercial vehicles are outlawed on Saturday... look for my 53 Dodge Ill be in a lot just south of 11 mile

 

Spending the week here with Family again this year. Last 2 years I have driven from New York in my latest one of a kind "Nomaro" Custom build which is newer than my HAMB friendly rides. Hanging out on Woodward during the week, going to Cruise Nights and drove the Grand Blanc to Flint slow cruise last night. Will be back to Woodward near 11 mile on Saturday handing out with my Son's Car Club. Been coming most years since the 90's and always have a good time and I enjoy meeting some great people.

 

Somernites cruise 4th weekend of each month in Somerset Ky (April to October) is pretty good too, Maybe not quite as big as Rod Run cruise etc in Pigeon forge but comparable with pretty much same vibe,
Never been to Woodward, Have always been curious what it was like tho.

 

It's something you gotta experience at least once in your life..

 

I flew out.from AZ just came back from a afternoon there. It is worth coming .

Cant wait till tomorrow.

One the way home there was a Harley service car on a trailer that had a flattie in it, tryed to get a pic but to dark and got blocked by traffic. Maybe it will show up today.
