Makes me appreciate my 64 falcon coupe a little more now that I have read this thread. Now I know where the term Monte Carlo bar comes from. The bar they installed infront of or on the spring towers to control the front flex and keep the steering true.
If my memory is not too far off, Holman and Moody prepped 3 or 4 sectioned 63 cars as the challenger. now those were nice cars
I know this is an old thread...but what the heck I am looking for some information on the brake setups used on the '63 and '64 rally cars. I have heard a number of places that front brakes were setup as follows: "The Mustangs offered the 4-piston 'small' Kelsey-Hayes discs from day one (beginning of '64) on the GTs and of course the Shelby GT350s. According to contemporary reports the '63 Falcons that ran the Monte Carlo Rally had them as well, and the '64s used the 12in '65 Thunderbird/Lincoln discs and 15in wheels along with the big-Ford rear drums/brakes " Does anyone have an exact layout of how these brakes were setup (what spindles were used, rotors, etc) and the same for the rear drum brakes? I am trying to dig up any pictures, info or specs so that I can duplicate these brake setups on my '65 Falcon. Thanks for any help!
Not sure what the Falcons had but what your describing sounds a lot like what they used on the R model Shelby GT350's maybe contact SAAC or a local chapter and see if they can help if google cannot find it for you. I think they used the big discs/spindle and put a tapered sleeve over the Mustangs balljoint. I know they used '65 Galaxie Station wagon drums on the back IIRC
I found these for inspiration for my 62 four door rally car since its in the planning stages. I know the tread is getting a little old, but I like it.... Better than just the usual customs and "gassers" that everyone does with their falcons on here.
In the fall of 1964 my wife and I went to Dearborn for our first anniversary and stayed at the Dearborn Inn right near the Ford Museum. The Inn was having a big doings for the new model year. We toured the plane where the Falcons and Mustangs were being built. Leaving there in the tour bus I noticed a line of Rally Falcons and Comets lined up along a chain link fence. I always wondered what happened to those cars. Charlie
I just wish someone in photoshop would give my car a shot and see what it would look like. But I guess some of the guys think it would be to hard. Haha
The 1963 1/2 Falcon rally cars used Studebaker front disc brakes with the rotors being a solid type instead of vented. Not sure about spindles but will have an answer soon.
