"If you're still reading print magazines, you'll also need to trash can that obsolete junk and move up to at least an entry level internet connection"

"The old ways are obsolete" says the print-media, without a hint of irony.

Guys, back in the old days, we had to change points all the time, if not change them, we would file and reset, maybe ten times in an engine/cars life time! I’m getting lazy in my old age! Most of the time I replace points with some sort of electronic ignition. Set it and forget it. For you guys that are successfully using points, great. Some of my engines still have points! My for my money.... it’s electronic all the way if possible. Just my two cents!

It's amazing how quickly the logic of the popular linear conception of technological progress can break down. It takes a bit of a mental leap to grasp that laws of physics don't change every few years.

I have both types. The old points have caused me less headaches than the electronics. Lucky in one respect maybe and not so in the other I guess.

  28. I think electronic ignition builds a false sense of security. They are supposed to be foolproof, everlasting, and problem free. When the electronic units shit the bed , folks tend to look at everything else first before they look at the electronic ignition.
When electronic ignition goes you’re plain old stuck without replacement parts. Typically there’s no warning of this about to happen either. With points ignition people tend to remain more involved with their cars. Routine maintenance and tuneups is the way things were done, it was a survival tool.

A business card works just fine. In every parts house there use to be a can on the counter full of point files. Try to find one today.

Unfortunately there's no advertising money to be made promoting point ignition, because they don't make them any more.
