I got a call from my pal Ken that he was driving up from his home in Florida en-route to the Nationals and was going to be spending the night in Anderson, he had checked in to the motel next door to the McDonald's cruise-in but had broken a bolt that holds the alternator and I told him to bring it to my house and we will try to fix the problem. We removed the alternator to be able to get to the broken bolt in the head, usually a bolt breaks just below the surface, I have never see a bolt that breaks at least 1 1/2" into the head, we decided to try another bolt, I found a 1 1/4" bolt and just by dumb luck it tightened up, we backed it out and added some lock tite and tightened it back up, reinstalled the alternator and everything worked like it should, Ken left the house and went back to the motel and we met up later at the cruise in, he had checked the bolt after the engine had cooled off and everything was still tight, hopefully he can continue on his way to visit family and then on to Louisville. I was kinda late getting to the cruise in so I just took a few photo's, we spent a lot of time catching up with friends I haven't seen in a while. HRP
Yes Don, there are several more that didn't show up, BTW there is one less than there use to be, it's back at Sweet home Alabama. HRP
Cool event! Our local McDonalds had no interest in hosting car events on their property. We inquired about having the Winfield Cruz series on the adjacent lot and using the McD lot as overflow. We suggested that they offer a few "specials" on the menu (Coke floats, etc) and prepare for a large crowd. They wanted nothing to do with any of it! We moved the series of events across the street to city property three years ago and always have 100-200 cars in attendance. The Pizza Hut and Subway restaurants on that side of the street LOVE it and sell a lot of food and drink. It's hard to help some people!
