If you don't want a different grill, pretty soon you won't want different seats or a different motor and pretty soon, we'll just rename this site Ford Barn.

I thought you were just joking around with us to let us know you were back. Any 32, Model A, etc. that has been changed from stock Ford is a hotrod. No matter how it is changed , materials , parts etc. the body makes it what it is. We would have to call them all just a hotrod , even an original 32 with any change if we went there. Glad to see your back and doing better.
First off glad to see you are feeling better. What’re ever tricks your trigger is the way i feel my model a hot rod is on the a frame and doesnt have a 32 grille but that’s the way i want it, to each his own.
Thanks, Bubba. Still not the way I want it, might get there if I get a raise in my Social Security check!
Are there more '32 roadsters on the road today than Henry built? A '32 grill looks great – as long as the new hood doesn't have to run uphill to meet it. I've seen too many of them, especially on T's.
My first old model A, bought it for only $300 bucks from a guy working at the shipyards, it was rough, but got me to work daily with a flatty & '39 box in 1959.
Yep , loved them to until ?????????????????? Just turned 70 , this me today . Tilt, Vintage air with a 60/40 caddy front seat...
I love the 28-9 A grill shell , but 30-31 I was never very fond of. I think everyone has to agree the 32 Grill shell is a Hot Rod classic. I used it as I could match the stainless cowl band to the matching band on the 32 shell. I also used 28-9 headlights as I like the deeper shape as compared to 30-31’s. I built a Model A not a 32.
I like the '32 grill as well but found that a mid '30's Chevy grill looks good also. I just need to find some headlight stands.
One of the first things I bought for my 31 Vic was a 32 Shell because I could give a rats ass about someone bitching because they don't think it is a "real" Model A because it doesn't have an A shell on it. If I wanted the thing to look stock I'd join the Model A restorer's club and have it stock. I'm sitting here in Victoria with over 700 32's running around and they look damned good. There are some nice Model A's too and a batch of other interesting rides. I don't see any badmothing among them because someone has a glass body rather than a steel body or a original steel rather than Brookville and if they are bragging original steel they usually have the crapped out paint and rust to prove it. Those guys do like to brag real steel the most.
Rereading the OP, if the Hotrod/Custom represents the Gamut of Styling in the Hamb Based Era celebrated here and period correct to that I gladly accept it however it is configured...
I agree with Bubba. More granular/specific car show categories would level the playing field and keep apples with apples. There could be multiple Hot Rod categories by type/era: Original Steel: 30’s 40’s 50’s 60’s and so on... Reproduction (Steel or Glass): 30’s 40’s 50’s 60’s and so on... For example, the Original Steel category could be defined as a car having 80% or more Henry Steel body parts...
All depends on who the judges are, i took my T to a hot rod show that had many classes. I had the most period hot rod there and the most original hot rod trophy went to a T- Bucket with no parts beyond the 80's. JW
Thanks for the kudos! I’m laid up in rehab recovering from surgery. When I get home I want to do a recap of the build.
Again I don’t mind the ‘32 Rad surround on an A but I would like to see more A rad surrounds out there. Maybe I like those late fifties/early sixties look. But all in all they all look cool. Off to Deuce Days for the show tomorrow!
Heal first, I'm doing home health care for my Wife right now. Follow the docs advice, do your pt and you should be good in no time. That is a sweet little A you have, Carp.
A Hotrod is not wholy Defined by what resides in the rad and shell location... Many revered Hotrods have a large amount of Original sheetmetal intact and they stand their ground...and are of course no lesser than Deuce Grilled Counterparts. I can relate to the Judging situation as I recently was in a Judged event in the Hotrod Class. My Ole Hotrod Circa 1962ish and the others Circa 1995 and up in of course styling...I should have taken a pic as it was visually interesting and actually typical of most vintage events I go to. It is interesting though in the sense that as far as carrying the Vintage Torch Forward the Hotrod Following has moved on to a large degree...I DO however see the A and B in all configurations to date just in mostly Non Hamb Friendly Skin...So it really is a choice at the builder level...there is no right or wrong in the debate of A or B. Another thing I will say regarding Classes of Entrants. I was at another larger Judged Event and Won in my Class......I had to wait thru the Awards Ceremony...is was at least an hour and seemingly the trophies never ended...so adding More classes while justified adds to the bottom line...So many Classes...
2 Hotrods Judgement Day this was the closest era inspired event I have participated in... Don't know how many I was competing with but it felt good to be up against at least one period inspired competitor...
The Story Just Part of the Balance The Beautiful Balance... & that Clint has to be careful writing his name on the side of his Hotrod... Credit to Photographer's, Owner's
My '29 Tudor has a sectioned '31 grill '31 headlights,(not a big fan of the 28-29 grills)'39 front axle '41 wishbones(suicide axle) "'65 Olds 425 TH400, 9 inch diff from'66. body has been channeled 3" rear wheel opening moved ahead and up. Still a Model A?
