I am looking for some help i bought wheels for my 56 special the rear brake drums are hub centric an i am looking for help finding a way to get the wheels to work i tried a spacer but the lug bolts just arent long enough to hold the wheels on Sent from my SM-G965U using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
I'd expect that ALL brake drums are hub centric. At least every one that I ever did a brake job on when I was doing brakes every day was. This may or may not help Dorman sells a lug bolt that fits that has 1 inch of threads on it. https://www.dormanproducts.com/p-5266-610-019.aspx They also sell some with a 1.475 thread length but it has a 7/8 head that might not jive with custom wheels. https://www.dormanproducts.com/p-12785-987061.aspx US Wheel adapters in Stockton TX will make you hub centric spacers to fit if that is the need. https://www.uswheeladapters.com/
Buicks of that era had a larger diam center hole for the wheel to fit the larger diam hub. To fit a steel wheel, you need a Buick wheel with the larger center hole. Have you tried the longer wheel studs to use as suggested? That's one solution to allow the spacers.
I don't understand this issue yet, about the spacer and all. But I know my 53 takes wheels with a HUGE hole in the middle, 3 1/4" or something like that. Nothing fits but an old Buick wheel, but I wouldn't mind some nice newer wheels.
It has been done to death but the chrome rally wheels that were factory on some Rivieras and Electras of the late 60's up through the 70's are 5 on 5 pattern and will fit your 56. You do have to remove the guide pins, the back ones screw out, the fronts you have to cut off.
