Went down to 7 yesterday on my SBC daily beatermobile. No noise, thought a plug wire fell off. Found this today. Harrumph. Why?

got too hot, was defective, was damaged in handling, or something.

Looks like it ran that way for a while, eh?

Yeah been in there a few years, leaky valve guides. Never overheats. Might have gotten banged around but was fine for a long time.

Going down to buy new plugs. Only spare plug I had sitting around was this AC. Never knew they came shorter, would help with header clearance. Out of a later TPI motor.

That is a valve guide sucking oil on the intake side and can cause detonation as the oil tries to burn.
I had an O/T Camaro with a 350 that used to foul # 2 spark plug every time I drove from the Grand Canyon down to Phoenix. Lots of coasting and high vacuum. I just carried a plug and plug socket because I knew it was going to do it. I had some that looked just like yours. Finally put some Ford umbrella seals to stop that issue.

  6. Been using Autolite AR133's for years, shorter than accel shorts and never had a problem, Just bought a set @ 3.25 each.

  7. Well, dang! Thought I was the only one.:p. Had that happen TWICE. With good old AC"s. Same car. Different engine. Re-gapped and has not happened since.

Always used Autolites in everything until lately. Have had bad ones new out of the box last 2 sets that I purchased.

I always use AC plugs in Chevys. They fit like they were made for it.

More than likely it's in the exhaust.

Yeah that was my worry, scored cylinder, bent valve or some such. But it's running smooth with new plugs all around.

Yep, and Motorcraft in Fords, they fit like they were made for them, too.
