So here I am, ready to cut my Model A frame a la Vern Tardel. On page 28 of the famous book by Bishop & Tardel it says "Mark the frame 4 inches from the forward face of the rear cross member. This isn't an arbitrary dimension; if the cut for the step is made 1/4 or 1/2 inch further forward, lots of otherwise unnecessary bodywork will be required." Now turning to the picture of their frame on page 32, the subscript for the picture again calls for 4 inches. But the picture shows the cut is made about 5 inches from the rear face of the rear cross member.
Plan to mount a Brookville roadster body, same as the book. Where do I cut???

Go to Walden Speed Shops Instagram page and scroll down. About a month and a half ago he showed their procedure for doing what you are planning. There are 2 series of photos showing their procedure. Also check Iron Trap Garage.

Just went out and measured mine, it's 4" from the forward face of the crossmember.
