What a dump, looks like the house from Psycho. Too bad this jerk is so far from Boston, would make a good father, son road trip. Walk in on him and put a nine to his head and I'm sure you would get your money back.

I did make sure he sent it back with plenty insurance (USPS ) and he still has the receipt. Of course he mailed it back in January.I kinda yelled at him today when he couldn't tell me the guys last name ,,,,, "Bobe's Auto , is all he said" ,, Hes all done buying stuff on line. I'll talk to my friend at the PO and see what they can do

A phone call to the local Sheriff in Davenport may help too, they might stop by and have a talk with him.

  4. You sent it back without talking to the seller first about a refund? If so that might an even worse idea than buying it sight unseen in the first place. Did you at least send it back requiring a signature on the other end to prove that he got it?

Bobe is an 80 year old guy who has been buying and collecting car parts for probably 70 of them. He has more cars and parts than most any guy on the HAMB. I used to see him buying at every swap meet, mostly with his nephew. But it's been a few years since I've seen him. I did buy some super rusty 32 roadster quarters from him 25 years ago, and got to see some of his stuff. But evidently he has parts in many old buildings in town. Don't think that street pic posted is an indicator of his wealth.

I've got no answer on how to shame him into giving your refund. He probably couldn't give a crap what people on the internet think of him. I don't know him personally, but I'd guess he'd be perfectly happy to never sell another car part in his life.

So, is he senile, or a crook? How much the difference matters depends on ‘compassion’....but a bitter pill to swallow in any case..

This is just bad, but, unfortunately, you dad made very mistake he could in this transaction. I hope something can be salvaged, beyond the warning.

Back in the 90s I bought a “cherry “. 27 roadster turtle deck through a ad in Hemings. I called the guy and he said it was cherry except for a little rust on one lower corner. I paid his price and to have it packaged. The truck pulled up and it was strapped to a pallet. when the shipper was unloading, I got sick. You could see daylight through most of it. I called the guy and told him what he shipped was not what he described. The guy lied and said it was as nice as I could buy this day and time. After that, The guy wouldn’t take my calls.
I called Hemings and told them about it. The guy had a regular ad. A few weeks later h e called me and he later sent me a partial refund. He continued to advertise in Hemings but changed his ads up and had a different number. I suspect Hemming contacted him about his false descriptions. You might try calling them if the guy is a regular. It could effect his income.

Seems like Bobe was at every Illinois swap I attended in the ‘70’s and ‘80’s, he brought stuff to sell but it seems like he was mainly a buyer. Last thing I sold him was a ‘32 5W garnish moulding. My impression BITD was that he probably still has his grade school graduation money in the bank.
I bet he has at least 10 years on me and I’m 70. He could be sick, have dementia or even be deceased. I don’t know him personally, just trying to make sense of the situation. If he is incapacitated clearly there are tons of cars and parts, maybe someone else is working the deals now. He was always decent with me.

Hey fellas - the HAMB is NOT the place for any discussion of violence.

My suggestion is to contact the Postal Service to file a complaint.
