So I have this M/T crossram intake with a matching pair of 500 Carters. I know the intake was made in about 1965 but I can't figure the date code on the carbs. I've seen codes with letter and number but not like this. Any experts on here?
I had one of those maifolds way back in the 70's on a Z-28 with two 650's....had the biggest offroad cam chevy offered for the smallblock. 4.56 gear, it really pulled hard..... Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
Yup that's what I've always thought they were, first generation Carter Comp series 500's. Not the later "clone" 9000 carbs made by Federal Mogul. 04A4 is the date code but I can't find anything on a 4 digit code thinking they are '64 or '74 carbs?
Not an expert by any means. But '64 sounds a little early to me. My guess would be Jan. 4, 1974. Gene.
Aside from the year made, what difference would there be between those and the Edelbrock versions? will parts interchange?
I think I saw somewhere that these have the same size primary and secondary jet orifice sizes(as Edelbrock 1404) but I don't know if the Edelbrock jets actually interchange.... I also read that Edelbrock changes the primary main & secondary metering on the 500's sold as a dual quad package. Don't think I want to do that for my intake because it's split into 2 separate plenums, but I'm willing to listen to the voice of experience!
I bought a Weiand, "why say and not", sbc crossram on ebay. Came with a set of 500 carter carbs. The carters look a little beat up so I am thinking of buying two of the 390 Holleys Summit has for their dual quad setup.
