Picked these up at a garage sale. Evidently they were used in speed event. Balsa construction. Found reprinted plans on ebay. I think the builder added the head enclosure. The rear mounted carb is (I was told) is a racing modification. McCoy engines .19 and .29. Sent from my SM-G920T using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
NICE SCORE! Haven't seen any like that before. Almost looks like they were built for a specific formula type of racing.
There were different classes of those racers. As for speeds? Some were in excess of 200 mph real NOT scale speeds. Some classes in the larger displacement had aluminum or magnesium belly pans, for lack of a better description.. Good luck.Have fun.Be safe. Leo
These were called speed planes and they were all built like that . It’s true they were very fast 150-200 actual MPH!!! And that’s in a tether line control. Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
Cool unit. Some speed planes only had an inboard wing and relied on centrifugal force There was usually a waist high post mounted in the centre of the tether so force didn't pull the 'pilot' out of centre.
