Find a 1964 Cadillac DeVille. You'll need the transmission too as it is a one year only bellhousing. You'll need the starter, and starter bracket so the adapter doesnt crack, you'll also need the dowel pins from the 64 429 or machine some to fit(they are stepped). The flywheel from the 429 and it will need to be machined open to fit the 390 crank.. I bought a complete 429 engine and trans from a wrecking yard. 1964 DeVille only. I put some pictures in an album in my profile
The bellhousing on the transmission looks just like the one they used on Nailhead buicks... they also used this transmission on Jeeps in the 60s, with a couple different adapters depending on what engine it went behind. Before they made a case just for the AMC engine, later on.
If the Buick transmissions had dual range drive selector(65-67?) it would give you the option of using the switch pitch converter with the Cadillac adapter.
Yep, looks like a ST400 from a Buick. Guess in 65-67, GM made Cadillac it's own TH400. After that it was BOP all the way.
I realize this is an old thread, but curious to know how this worked out. Torque converter hub fit the 390 crank? I just picked up a 63 390 for my 64 deville Sent from my SM-G892A using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
