The Traylor car was definitely not 300" wheelbase. Compare it to my Don Long car which appears to have the motor a little further out (it is 36") and is 225" between the axles. A 300" car would have been close to knocking down the crew guy on the left.

To me...some of the best days of drag racing, when the "original" FX cars were taken to the next level with the addition of blowers and Nitro.

I am not sure mate, I will have to ask Don. In 65/6 he had a Woody and his 69 car was definitely a Long but I am having trouble filling in the gap between those cars. You should have asked me last year before the US Nats as I spent quite a bit of time chatting with the "King" over that weekend.

The youngsters (anybody for that matter) here should Google Floyd Lippencott Jr.
Not his real name but pretty funny story about how the name came to be.

  13. LOL! :D Floyd Lippencotte, Jr. ... What a hoot!

These shots have to be from, what, late 60s, maybe very early 70s? Was a bit surprised to see Gary Ormsby in this line-up. Don't think so much about him racing in this era.

Thanx for putting the faces with the names. Well, except for Floyd L. Jr.! :p

This one just keeps making laps on the HAMB (in this thread and others). Last seen here about 3 years back, it is the late John Wenderski at San Gabriel. He was killed in this car in early 1964.

Once again a lot of these shots come from Dennis Doubleday's archives. Dennis is an expert on early funny cars but he also has some great dragster stuff and as I am a front motor guy here is a sample.

This appears to be Butch Hummel and Dick Vest's "Sorry 'bout that" AA/GD out of Dayton, Ohio. Labe Guirino built the chassis

Three shots of Frank Hedge's A & W Root Beer car. Depending on the year it could be Walt Stevens, Dick Stahl. Bob Downey or Neil Leffler in the seat. Frank went on to run a front motor car when the category was revived and that team has evolved into the High Speed Motorsports operation that won Bowling Green this past weekend
