I recently, like today received a gas tank I ordered from Chevy of the 40s, this tank " DOES NOT " fit a 3/4 ton pick up. It will fit a 1/2 ton. They sold it to me, I'm sure they knew it wouldn't fit. I'm out $400. Jim Carter truck parts has the explanation.
Ok, sorry for your loss. I was under the impression (apparently mistaken) that the gas tank went behind the seat. At least my 1950 3100 is that way, what’s different on a 3600 cab? Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
...the cabs are all the same, how do you know it'll fit a 1/2 ton?...if so, it'll fit a 3/4 ton...lets see some pics,..bet they'd correct the problem if the wrong one was sent...maybe its for a 55-up...? 47&8 's used a frame mounted tank on the pass. side framerail,...is that what you have?

The frame is a different shape behind the cab on 3/4 ton trucks, they are straight while the 1/2 ton trucks flair out a little. Might make enough difference that the tanks would be different. Old school way to tell the early cabs, no filler on cab side, so pre 49 rod runs used use that as a way to ban non pre 49 trucks.
