They used six lug hubs on Chevrolets in 56 for sure, maybe in 55 as well. The way I understand it, the six lug parts were sold over the counter due to their use by ambulance and limousine builders so why not use the stuff for competition.
As for as the stock five lug junk. It was used by the local dirt racers back in the 60's and early 70's around here. I don't recall that many hub or spindle failures on the stock class cars, mostly ball joint and tie rod breakage due to accidents.

Nice exhaust tips...I don't ever remember seeing them on a 55. Back window paper plate shows he just bought it used. The yellow smaller Calif license plate with no sticker on the left side of the "56" shows he bought it in 56.

First Aussie Falcons. We only had 4 door sedans and wagons and later panel vans.

There used to be a lot of this going on in this area of Ohio. When I was a kid me and my buddy went by a county road when they were placing some junk cars along a stream bank. That evening we went back to see what goodies we could find. We found a almost complete J-2 set up in the trunk of an Olds, a wonderbar radio in a 58 Pontiac, a pair of T-Bird valve covers on a Y-Block and a mess of other goodies. Good thing we got there first, in a few days anything worth a dime was gone.

Jan Opperman in 1968 with the car that opened the door for him to Midwestern racing ... this Bob Trostle built car was referred to by Jan as the "Hay and Cobweb" car ... reason being Trostle had parked it in a barn becuz nobody had felt comfortable driving it.... the car had different setups becuz Trostle had built it with the motor 2 and a half inches back of center ..... and the great drivers of the time were spooked by it becuz all the cars at the time had engines at center or ahead of center .... Opp came looking for a ride and Trostle had heard about Jan giving the California Offies a run for there money with a old V8-60 ..... Bob had a driver in his only operable car ..... then he had an idea .. he would get the car out of the barn that no one wanted to drive if Jan wanted to give it a whirl..... Jan jumped at the idea and second time out was at the Nebraska State Fairs half mile for a IMCA race with the finest field of IMCA racers ever assembled , Jan blew everyone away and after the checkered flag the head shaking began ... how could this of happened ? That peculiar car with a unknown driver....?? in Jans words Bob Trostle the genius that he is.... and I came along and didn't have to get used to anything , becuz it was all new to me ......
