Technical Help making a boat tach work in a car

I recently picked up a very cool vintage tach from a boat at the swap meet. The tach is a panel mount and I think it would look real good in the dash of my model A Ford. When I got the tach home I discovered that it is intended for a 6 cylinder outboard engine. Is it possible to make it work on my fathead V8? What do I need to do to make it work?

 

Pardon...but what's a fathead..????..
And I believe a good electronics guy can do by resistors or replacing the "guts" with other set. Summit actually sells a vintage looking 4-6-8 tach and with the face lip removed it's internals could be us with your face..good luck.

Fathead was Archy Bunkers brother in law Meat Head was his son in law.

 

If the outboard was 2 cycle 6 cylinder and you want to use it on a 4 cycle 4 cylinder......well, I'm thinking I should have paid closer attention in math class.......good luck with that!

 

2 cycle 6 = 4 cycle 12. On a 4 cycle 8 it will read 2/3 of actual rpm!
