Have tried several cleaners just prior to applying the top finish coat & have experienced the following : have a ( film) from wax/ grease remover, lacquer thinner cuts into the material too much, water doesn,t do ... Your ideas ? How about acetone ? Gene
I always used prep-sol, DuPont I believe. It's been awhile. In fact ran out last summer and threw the can out before I seen who made it and I forgot. You wipe on and let dry but I always 2 hand it, one wiping it on and the other right behind wiping it off. I do all prep chemicals that way, 2 handed. Done it that way for almost 40 yrs.
My final wipe down is with alcohol, which they say you are NOT supposed to do. Don't tell anybody. -Abone.
Southern Polyurethanes offer both a Solvent based Wax and Grease Remover as well as a Waterborne Wax and Grease Remover-I just finished painting my Car black, and I attribute y lack of problems (fisheye. etc.) to the Waterborne W&G Remover-I washed it down three to four times with it before Painting (and followed that with those blue Scott Paper Towels)-I put on 10 coats of clear-no problems-
I like to wash mine in in soap & water the day before - Dawn soap Just before painting I use 710 -1 Wax & grease remover from Southern Polyurethanes Read the instructions let it set for 1/2 hour after wiping I am happy with the results
I talked to a painter this weekend and he told me Prep-Sol is a major cause of fish eye. never heard that before . Have used it for years.
Do you mean before the first of several coats or before the last of several coats? It matters. What product exactly are you cleaning?
