Word has it that it is best to pour your aluminum as cool as possible while still getting your mold to fill completely.

 

But hot enough so it doesn't freeze before the mold is full. I am pouring 3 minutes after the last puck in the pot goes under. If I had a pyrometer it would be more accurate, but so far the 3 minute wait is working pretty good.
