Hot Rods Block code strange....

    Guy in town trying to sell a 289 ......but its not a 289 block code is E08E-A2E what is it ? I know its a 1980 but after that can't find any info......

    Sure the 8 isn't a S ? Could be a 1980 255.

    302 and 255 were the only options in 1980. 255 would be a E0SE code, I think all others would be a 302. Oval intake ports would give the 255 away also if the intake was off. All 1980, 81, and 82 model year 255 and 302 blocks were made from E0 molds. 1983 brought some changes and the E3 dated molds.

    Either way, your not buying a 289.....

    Never heard of a 255 good to know !! I'm just going by what the seller told me the code was Thanks for your help !!
     

  5. Gee, I’m a Chevy guy, but even I know that they quit building 289’s in the late 60’s. I think 1967 was the last year.

    The 255 was an attempt at a light small displacement engine. The block was very thin cast. The oil pan bolts actually protrude into the crankcase... Yes they were terrible about leaking oil. They didn't hang around long at all. Right along with the metric tires and wheels on the same cars.
