I EDC67A26-3DAB-4339-8F18-924BAD044949.jpeg 300FE028-1834-4E17-883E-B9ECEF8E4E3F.jpeg 106EF38A-0107-4666-818D-BB44503E525E.jpeg 351CA79C-61D8-4836-89E3-B41138FC27B5.jpeg have a Ford distributor. Numbers are C0AF-12127-J. It is a dual point with no vacuum advance. Closest I could find is a 1961-63 HIPO 390/406 with a single 4 barrel. The issue I am having is the “J” suffix. I can’t seem to find any info with that “J”. Any Ford FE people in here that can pin-point this distributor?

According my old Motors manual, it is a 61 Ford standard 390 distributor. It may have had the dual point breaker plate installed way back in the day, or more recently... Who knows.

By the way.... That big round thing hanging off the side is the vacuum advance.

  3. Probably for '60 352-360hp. Date code OBD = Feb 1960-4th week of month or 4th day. If not vacuum advance then WTF's the vacuum diaphragm on it for? Doubt it was new on a '61 Ford since it was assembled in February 1960, hence probably ,'60 352 application.

  4. May have been a service replacement... they weren't always exact duplicates, just functioned the same.

Seems like a lot of point offset.

    Yes
Check out the last picture. Not quite sure how Ford did it back then. But, it looks like this flat head screw hasn’t been touched.

To add to this, this came with the Latham supercharger stuff I bought. All this has been sitting since the mid/late 60s. Please take the time to look at the ford numbers both cast and stamped into this distributor.

The advance arm is not connected to the breaker plate . The arm is not there . The plate has been added to a single point distributor and the advance is jut being used to plug the hole in the side of the distributor . This was a common , swap years ago . I always epoxied the hole closed . But it is what it is . The vacuum advance is needed for street driving , not racing .

Do you know anything about this part number? i thought it was strange that there was no condenser. But, points are out of my knowledge. That J still has me a little stumped.

Edit. This is also included with a C1 Holley that matches up to a HIPO 390/406 single 4bbl combo. Pretty sure both of these were just stragglers hanging out with the lathem set up in the coffin.

Notice the slot in the breaker plate ? That’s where the condenser is supposed to fit . It has a tab attached to it and goes under the screw that is near the 2-3 o’clock position in your photo . The best call you can make to identify the part is Dave Cooper @ Green Sales Co . in Cinti ., Oh . He is a rodder and been in the business for 40 plus years . As I said you have a cool vintage piece . Would I use it ? Only if returned to single point with the advance working on the street . Any Ford single point V8 will have the correct parts to swap back into the top and return to stock form.

Did you ever figure out what the FE application was for this distributor? Thanks

The VACUUM ADV was defeated on the SPEC as it was mechanical advance only.
    The PLUG is OEM.
It Came Though With A CONDENSER.

I bet if Jeff Norwell sees this he will fall all over himself ... :D
