    So I'm getting ready to make my Cadillac caps fit on my Shoebox wheels. I bought some original beauty rings but by first glance, it doesn't look as if they are going to sit very close to the wheel. I've found other techs on how others have done it both with the adhesive and building a little stanchion to bolt the cap to. Is this just how the Sombreros fit non Cadi wheels? Is there a way to make them fit nice and snug and flush? I'd appreciate any help fellas
    Thanks - 20190323_101611.jpg 20190323_101602.jpg 20190323_101611.jpg Andrew

    Yep, you need wheels with deeper “front spacing”. The wheel cover is ‘bottoming out’ on the wheel center before the outer edge meets the rim flange.

    I dont know if that's it either. Im using '51 Ford wheels and I know others have used those and I take off the beauty ring and the cap falls flush with the lip of the wheel.

    I've heard of other people using 16" rings from newer trucks. Has any body done this, anyone know what truck they are pulling them off of?

    Hi Will that Cad center emblem remove from the sombrero? If so if that allows it to seat you might be able to install those chrome bullet centers.
    Good luck, Jimmie

    It's not the cap holding it either, I think I need a different beauty ring.

    I'm thinking that those rings have too much curve to them. Real pretty with stock caps or baby moons but not flat enough to slip the Cad cap down in them.

    you will never find a beauty ring to use in conjunction with the sombreros or any other full wheel disc.Hnstray gave you the answer already there have been posts on it before.you mentioned trim rings but your picture did not show it so I assumed you were calling the sombreros trim rings not thinking anyone would try putting any disc over a beauty ring as common sense would dictate not going to work to say nothing of being counter to any thing right.to be honest it would be like spending a fortune on engine goodies then keeping the hood locked down

    Actually I posted a picture of my wheel with the beauty ring on it. Sorry it posted as a thumb nail and not as a big picture. If you would like to do some research and find out for yourself maybe you would see that builders have been using beauty rings for years to mount their hub caps. I remember Rob Radcliffe from Temecula cutting his rings in four pieces before using them in conjuncture with his caps. My question wasn't "why wont it work" but more of "does this look right". My common sense tells me that you have never done it, so why try and comment on it? Here's a couple I've found using beauty rings that you say wont work. Sorry if they come across as thumbnails, and you have to click on them.

    You'll have to look past the poor quality of the pictures. I took pictures of pictures that I printed out back in probly '05 from the ruffrodders.com days. Beauty rings with Sombreros...huh who knew. 20190402_173146.jpg 20190402_173242.jpg 20190402_173231.jpg 20190402_173146.jpg 20190402_173156.jpg 20190402_173218.jpg 20190402_173231.jpg 20190402_173242.jpg

    Sombrero is riding on the '51 stamped wheel center. PERIOD.
    Best fix: mid '50s International pickup steel wheels.
    Right lug pattern, 5 on 4-1/2";
    Deep outer rim, 3/4" deeper than Ford.
    Also: Wheel center has pre-'48 Ford 'nubs', takes '40-'48 Ford passenger caps.
    (Just in case your shoebox goes 'hot rod' on us...)
