    Good Thursday to All,
I'm interested in purchasing a 1960 thru 1972 Cadillac. Either a Coupe de Ville or El Darado.
The question is what year did Cadillac start (in these years) to install FWD. I would like to stay away from those models as well as the 410 engines. You are probably wondering why a Caddy. I'm 6'6" and weigh 270, believe me, I do not fit in small cars of that era.
Thanks in advance for the help,

The FWD Toronado started in 1966. I'd think Cadillac would have been about the same point in time.

As far as I know Cadillac never made a 410 cubic inch engine. 1960 to 63 was a 390 cu in, 1964 to 67 were 429 cu in 68 to 74 were 472 and 500 cu in. 1975 had 350 in the Seville.

Hey, Sarge... Being that this is a strict site with a 1964 cutoff date, (nuthin newer) we don't talk about the newer stuff.

But...Waylon Jennings had a black '70 El Dorado, front wheel drive, slightly lowered, bought it new with a cohort of his.
I did some maintenance and small repairs on it, drove it some, ROOMY with no transmission hump...he asked about a 500 cu.in. engine, but passed before he could do it. Sad... Nice gent.

There are some '60 Cp. D'Villes around, so smooooth... I worked for Cadillac/Olds in '62-'65, GM journeyman mechanic. A favorite was the '62 Park Avenue...(series 62, with a short trunk. For ease of parking in the Eastern states.
Beautiful cars, seat relocated back 3" should do it for you...Some later bench seats (Cad) sit lower, also...Electrics are in seat frame, easy wiring.
    Consider a 500 cubic inch engine...they are a slip-in with a Riviera 400 trans.

  5. The front drive El Dorado hit the streets in '67.

Anything that would fit our forum guidelines would not be front drive. I am not familiar with the 410 cube motor. The 429" motor hit the market on '64 and was a 390 series motor (not first gen Caddy V-8). But anything made that fits our forum guidelines would not be a 410.

Note that just because the Eldo became FWD in 67 doesn't mean anything for the other models. The CdV will be RWD during that whole time period.

Sarge, I have a 64 Coupe deVille. The 429 is a good engine. In 64, they changed over to TH400.
    Good luck in your search
