My own version of Christine that I plan on having a mild kustom touch. A dream car since I was little I’m trying to make a reality! IMG_1244.JPG

It’s an interesting pattern, right now a poly 318 but most likely gonna find a 440

Beautiful cars. Looks to be a 57. I've got some decent used bumpers for one of those if you need some that haven't been painted over.

Discovered that most of the car was loaded with filler over shoddy body work

I'm not sure how to pull it off but this needs to be on the radio every time you start it

Considering many of the cars I’ve seen, you’re right. There are several more areas but I’ve seen much worse

Not sure where it was built, judging from old paint I’ve found in crevices it looks to be an original red/white Belvedere

Kudos to you man . Lots of guys when they see that much hidden filler would run and run fast away.
You look unafraid to tackle this behemoth and its hidden uglies.

  19. I found that in my '51 Ford shoe box that is really good underneath all of it. Either someone that doesn't know or in a big hurry to make a fast buck and either is sad. Take good care of the "project supervisor".;) She looks as if she will keep you honest an doing it correct.:D

  22. It will take time but when you are done it will be solid metal. Make sure to repair structure as wall as the visible outer body. Then it will be a solid "new car" or at least feel as good as a '50's classic can. Looking good so far, don't get overwhelmed and persevere.

Thanks! I most definitely am going to be replacing anything rotten in my path, including what you can’t see

But I thought Christine was suppose to fix herself....

Your doing a good job. Those mid -late 50s Mopars had some great lines, but horrible body construction practices, and even worse metal protection. Gene

You’re right, quality control wasn’t the best and these things began to rot at a young age. I wish she fixed herself, my wallet would be in better shape!

It was common practice, even into the early 1980's, to pull out and "waffleboard" a collapsed panel, then simply apply shitloads of filler, then sculpt & sand to shape.

There was a gentleman that bought a 58 only to discover Brillo pads stuffed in holes with filler on top. I’ve also heard of cigarette packs being found buried under filler!

  28. 106_0070.JPG This is what was in the rear quarters of my '51 Ford two door under 1/2 - 3/4" of body putty. It has all been replaced like this.
106_0067.JPG Cut out the rot and weld back in new metal.
