soooo im working on a ford 302, my brother had this 400 dollar mallory distributor from his 302 sitting around, i got all fired up when he said go ahead, use it and i installed it. after plugging in the last spark plug wire i went to plug in the little power in plug thing and DANGIT its the wrong plug!? my question is....3 wires come out of the mallory, 3 wires come out of the oem dist....caaaan i cut the plug off of each and swap them?
we'd need to know more about the distributor. What is the part number? or what does it look like inside, under the cap? They made a few different types. If it's a magnetic pickup, then you might be able to use it like you want to. If it's a Unilite, then it will require something different. And if it's some kind of hall effect type, you'll also need to do something different.
its ot soooo i dont want to say, i honestly just searched the internet for hours and couldnt find an answer... if i was going to give an idea though, 19 hatey won bucking pony 4x4 made by ford
so both should be magnetic pickup. should be o.k. but thats a pricey dist. just saw 3 wire module must be used. just order one to match dist. i think oem is 3 wire but a new one can't hurt
thats the only reason i wanted to use it... better than it sitting in a box! ill look at how much thatll cost, thanks
figure out which two wires connect to the pickup coil on each one, and wire accordingly. If it doesn't run right or at all, switch the polarity of the wires. The third wire on each, is probably ground.
