History Help identify that car

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Doyle87fleetline48, Mar 4, 2019.

  1. Can someone tell me what the car is that a young jfk is sitting on? The external boot hinges are throwing me off, i thought they started them in the 40s as cars in the 30s had dickie seats? The photo is meant to have been taken in 1937.
    Any help 20190304_220550.jpeg

  6. That's just a great photo, and one I don't recall having seen before. I wonder if this is just a crop from a larger image.

  11. Now that we have established what the car is, I would think dickie seat & external boot hinges are Aussie terms for rumble seat & trunk hinges. HRP

  13. I have shirt tail relatives that live in England that call a trunk a boot. Actually in some parts of Mexico a trunk is called a Bote which would translate to Boot or jail. :D

That's the first time I've seen JFK's wiener. (I've not actually been searching for it.)

  19. Maybe its called a dickie seat because when you sit in it, its so cramped that you end up sitting on your dickie.....

  20. Did you also notice the camera case in the top center of the photo, just above the trunk hinge? You don't often see that either.

Another view taken at the same time:

Said to be taken on a 1938 trip to Europe, but I'm guessing UK or Ireland, judging from the cars in the background.

You have to remember that JFK was just a kid of 21 at that time. It was probably just a part of a group of family vacation pics. Nobody had any idea of where his life would go.
