I've not put my hands on it yet,so just these pics I'm pretty sure it's a 33-36 axle. It needs king pins What's The spindles and brakes from
I don't know what they are, but late 40s Mopar did have bolt on steering arms like those spindles have, and like you can see on those arm bolt bosses, one boss used a longer bolt. I had to put arms & drums back on a "garage found" (taken-apart) 47 Plymouth about 6 years ago and some of it looks the same. I just can't recall much else.
Im going with Mopar as well. They did dual wheel cylinders, and used kin pins on their front ends from 1934-56.Bet if you took the spindle off ,the axle end has been reamed,or bushed to a different size.
Wheeltramp you made me smile friend. Well grin. I believe that you are correct about the brakes. Damned neat setup. The MOPAR kingpins were smaller in diameter as I recall so if it needs kingpins I would guess that measuring diameter would be your best bet.
is there a backing plate inside the backing plate? a vw/porshe backing plate welded inside? can't wait to see photos of it apart.
Desoto spindle and brakes ? This is an EBay pic and discription is 50-54 desoto /Chrysler New one on me, I've not seen those on a Ford axle before.
There's info here to help figure this out I guess. It probably needs to come apart to get a positive ID, http://rustyhope.com/site/mopar-discbrakes/
