They are not on the car yet, keep talking. I have been looking for a while for suitable tail lights, round Pontiac and rectangle units are very commonly used, I even purchased a pair of teardrop Zephyr style ones. I decided to make my own bezels and use caddy lenses because I like them, I feel they will give a 60s look to the rear of the car - and no one else has tail lights the same as mine. I made these with my own hands and a little help from the lathe. Glen

Yeah, I see you’ve spent quite a bit of time at the lathe. Good effort. I just see them as more of a custom touch. The 39’s have been beaten to death, but for good reason. They suit damn near any vehicle. The zephyr style look good. Could always just drill one hole either side and have a play with the various units you’ve got. End of the day, your car, so you decide.

Decided to install tail lights recently, happy with the result, initially thought it was a bit over the top but its growing on me. May paint the bezels black but undecided at present. Also started making the seats - I needed to finalise seating position before I make the pedal assembly. The seats will be mounted on sliding rails and the existing subframe will be modified to suit, I will also fabricate new floor panels etc. Glen P9260670.JPG P9260673.JPG P9200667.JPG P9260668.JPG P9260669.JPG

Seats coming along nicely,I'm taking the coupe to a car show tomorrow, first time car out of shed since rebuild began. Event is an all American car display that I first attended about 30 years ago in my GT falcon - pictured in this thread, lately Ive been taking my Topolino altered but thought that I should take my coupe this time. I will take some pics of the show and post tomorrows. Glen P9290686.JPG P9290687.JPG P9300689.JPG P9300690.JPG P9300691.JPG P9300692.JPG P9300693.JPG P9300695.JPG P9300699.JPG P9300700.JPG

  7. I think I can get behind the rear lights, but I agree that the bezels need to be painted. Seats are coming out great.

Displayed car at local show, lots of positive comments on build so far. I also blacked out my tail lights with black tape to see how it would look. I riveted seats and welded some rod around the sharp edges recently, still need to mount seats on sliding bases and modify subframe to suit. Happy with seats so far, Glen PA050797.JPG PA060798.JPG PA060800.JPG

I will be blacking out lights soon just looking at paint options, I like the new grille as well - I have 3 grilles now to mix and match. Drums come with backing plate, caliper mount, nuts and bolts and drum, you need your own disc and calipers. If you google Hot Cargo Engineering it will go to there face book page, they are in NSW. I will try to make the seats as comfortable as possible, I will be adding extra padding to the seat covers. I was unable to use original seat as it pushed my legs to far forward and I had no room for the pedal assembly. This is because of the roll cage taking up valuable space, also the original seat had a wooden base and was bolted to the floor with 2 bolts. I needed to modify original or make new ones to gain more room and comply with regulations for seat mounting. Its not all about comfort for me, this is a hotrod and will be getting a tuff engine and will probably only do short trips of 1 -2 hours at a time. If its a to harsh ride I can always make or modify something more comfy, time will tell. Glen

Finished mounting seats today, I needed to make them bolt in from inside and had to make brackets to suit, also pulled out rest of floor so I can mount brake booster and make pedal assembly. I painted taillight bezels black as well, check out pics. Glen P1010826.JPG P1010827.JPG P1010828.JPG P1010829.JPG P1010831.JPG P1010832.JPG P1010819.JPG P1010820.JPG P1010821.JPG P1010822.JPG

A few pics of todays progress, took a while to sort it out but it now works fine. Need to finish weld and mount in car. Unsure weather to make some sort of handle or leave as is - leaning towards leaving as is. Glen P1010840.JPG P1010843.JPG P1010844.JPG

I think they look better under a cross-member where it's designed for. I like that you're thinking outside the box, just careful on R-rod design.
Have you enquired about rules for head restraint. Here, if your 12'' or closer to anything behind you, headrests are required for compliance.

Banjos can you explain - I think they look better under a cross-member where it's designed for. I like that you're thinking outside the box, just careful on R-rod design, Im unsure what you mean. I will be organising a engineer to look at car soon before I go to far. Also about to buy some tyres - not sure if blackwall or whitewall, Im leaning towards blackwall, Firestone or Coker, radial type with a vintage look. Thanks foolthrottle I think its cool to, I finished welded and painted it today and will post pics tomorrow. Glen

Sometimes we like to be different, but things can get a little industrial looking, like using a cam-shaft as a spreader bar. Less is generally more.

I love traditional rods and most other rods including rat rods but I need to differentiate my car from the norm, I cannot help myself sometimes, I love making things - and can be fixated at times ( tail lights are an example, dont love em but they are growing on me ). Drag racing is my main love then hotrods ( I consider them in the same sentence - but Im aware others do not ) hence the drag theme evident in my build. I have said all along that I will race this car and have been building it accordingly with a traditional look. I appreciate and value all advice and comments and I am aware of this being a traditional hotrod website, but the knowledge and quality of the builds on this site are the reason Im here. Glen
