Not exactly. There is a major suit and criminal charges against GM for bribery of city, state, and federal officials to remove the great trolley systems in place and buy GM diesel buses.

 

And the tire companies were in on it too. In reality I cannot image what it would look like with all the over head wires which are now missing. When I see them in foreign countries I think of cluttered it looks and the repair problems...

 

I won't disagree with those actions. Any time something is removed actions will take place.

It's important that people also understand that the Pacific Electric Railway wasn't built as a mass transit system. It was built by land investors as a means to get people to move out of the LA area that other wise wouldn't have. When that investment venture panned out it became tough luck for those that moved away to find a way back to LA. That's were GM came in and became the escape goat. Blame has to go some where, right?

Thanks, however I know the whole story. What I write/wrote is very condensed to save time therefore not very detailed. In the end though, people wanted more freedom (their own vehicles) but that wasn't in the equation of accepting blame then either.
