Im almost done with my Starliner. I’m thinking of running the long tube tri y’s and leaving it at that. I can be talked out of it though. Opinions?
It's all relative to how well you get along with the local PD. An How well they know you for the Rite reason's... An Definitely not cocktailing....
Do it. If it wears on you and gets sucky just add on some straight-through mufflers as a next step....... .......if it still sucks, step up to quieter mufflers. Been there, done that.
The drone will make you crazy on the highway. At least run some pipes out to the rear, that's what I did on my Ranch Wagon.
I run open headers, at the drag strip. Mufflers on the street. It works well, that way. Sent from my Trimline
These guyz are just a bunch of OLD wimmen!! Big question is....how big is the engine? A six (for example)would be way quieter than a 427 side oiler! Is it a high compression cammed-up piece or a stocker? I run my Mustang coupe with a souped-up cammed-up roller motor...9.5:1 CR straight out of the headers etc. But... just local/around town or next town over. At 60/65(in 5th gear) conversation is pretty easy. Ripp'in through the gears will give you an erection though! I live in a beach town were motorcycle riders are abundant almost year round so...the poe-poe are pretty cool. Naturally...I don't "wing-it" when in their presence and since I'm an old man they just smile and wave! Lotsa things to consider but I vote for open headers! "Maybe"......run straight pipes and end them behind the door or even the rear bumper. The further it travels the quieter it will get. 6sally6
I ran my 30 pickup for about 6 months with open headers, it was fun, but it does get old quick. It would make my ears ring after about 1/2 hour on the road. The spiral type baffles from Speedway will bring the volume level down about 10db (about half) which makes it bearable, but still sounds great.
My best friend is now in his late 70's and after years of running Harley's with no mufflers (i.e. "drag pipes"), he has extremely bad hearing. Open headers have their place and are great to listen to but not for a driver. - EM
If you run open heads on the street you'll need a few things, a folder for the tickets and a dumb and dumber T shirt and also an appointment for the hearing aids you are most certainly going to need.
Mufflers are nice when you first install your engine...you get to hear potential problems. With open headers, there’s no sneaking in late at night. Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Radio delete plate, won't be needing a radio anymore. If you wore a helmet it may not so bad, hard to carry on a conversation tough.
After years of loud bikes, race cars and airplanes I can hardly hear a thing now. Sometimes it's a blessing but most of the time it's a PITA. Put mufflers on that thing, you'll be glad you did later.
Here it is...pretty much done..except some rims...and I guess an full exhaust since I asked for and GOT Opinions.
