I put a 324 Rocket in a Ford F1 pickup. Adaptor plated to the original 3 speed. Easy setup. Way more than the old truck needs.
In '62 I had a 303 in my '38 Ford coupe. '39 box stock rear end. I went through a few of each before I learned how to drive it. The olds was bored a little had a 3/4 cam and 3 twos.
My only Olds in an old Ford (a 48 two door sedan) was in about 1960, I had my cows at the fair in Corning, Ia and time to kill during the day. One of my fellow "4H'rs" brother had the aforementioned Ford. He was cruising up main street, nailed it and the throttle linkage over centered, then with youthful quick thinking he found the key and turned it off. I was 16 and thought that car was so cool
My buddy's 39 was what inspired me in high school wanted that car so bad but no $ Many years later tracked it down and bought it !
I had a similar search last year but reversed, I needed to swap in an Olds Transmission and thought there would have been a few "How-To" articles on the engine swap from back in the days but no luck. I ran a very worked over Olds with a B&M Hydro in my '34 and loved it! So when I came across a nice Hydro-Motive trans with Chevy adapter I thought it would be perfect behind my early Vette block. There's been a lot of cutting to make that happen in my '39.
Chris is one of the only guys that I know that pulls the body off his car to change the transmission... You need any help finish that up? r Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
My first exposure to one of these was while taking a Boy Scout First Aid course at the local Volunteer Fire Department in Plainview, NE in '62 or '63. We got a tour of the fire equipment during a break and sitting in the back of the fire hall was the Firechief's car; a white '39 or '40 Ford 2-door sedan complete with lights and siren. And an Oldsmobile shoe-horned into the engine bay. To say I was impressed was an understatement... I've always wondered what happened to that car.
"Call me qwazy-but....I thought a 39 grille was sorta/kinda like a 40 grille (only prettier)! This one looks (to me) more like a 34/36 grille. Maybe it just me?! Nice ride BTW! 6sally6
picked this one up a few years ago, seller said it was in a '40 Ford Coupe before it spent way to long out in the weather but had lots of parts worth saving
OK, still not "getting it" I guess. Does this adapter fit between the flywheel and crank to move the flywheel back or is it just a pilot bearing adapter to allow the Olds crank to accept the Ford pilot bearing?
It would be a stepped pilot bushing, big size for the crank and a step down for the trans input shaft.
