I am looking to ship a model a coupe body to Alaska when I move there… who do you guys use? Has anybody ever shipped to model a body? Sent from my SM-G950U using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
I had mine moved in the same moving truck along with my tools and household stuff. Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
It depends a lot on how the rest of your belongings are being shipped to Alaska. A lot of stuff going to Anchorage and points out of there gets put in containers in Seattle, loaded on a barge and the barge gets towed to Anchorage or other Alaska ports. One of my nieces just moved back from Anchorage and she had to wait until her household goods were barged to Seattle and then hauled across the country to South Carolina. As far as prepping the body for shipping, if it is just the body, either find or build a heavy duty pallet that the body fits on that can be picked up by forklift from the side or end. build solid crate around the body and sheet it with plywood so you are shipping a pallet size crate. I'd put it together with screws so I or someone else could reuse the crate material after I got there.
Mine was not a military move. It was across country Michigan to Washington in 2013 Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
I put a Model T body still attached to the frame and front fenders in the back of a U-Haul truck when I moved from North Carolina to Alabama. It fit pretty good even with my other belongings.
If it’s a military move. Ask your moving company. A buddy of mine works for a moving company here in Canada that does world wide moves for Canadian military. He’s told me some of the stuff they move cars, pianos, food .... basically if it’s owned by Canadian military personnel it gets moved one way or another.
My friend just used FASTENAL to ship a 38 Chevy truck cab from Michigan to Montana. Everything worked out great, dont know the cost . Mitch.
It was a A coupe body that I shipped with my stuff. Just wanted to clarify that it wasn’t my pickup which I used Intercity lines to ship. Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Commercial shippers will want to understandably return to the lower 48 loaded. You may have to help them find a return load or pay the cost of returning empty. Unfortunately Alaska is probably not in the so called "lane" that the biggies prefer to stay in.
