What was your first hot rod or custom? I'm curious to see what got everyone hooked. I'll start. Mine is the 1950 Plymouth I have now. The flathead 6 is free now but I know where there's a really good deal on a Hemi and automatic out of a Desoto so that may be in the future.
This thread topic comes up pretty often. HRP https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/search/173218438/?q=first+hot+rod&o=relevance&c[node]=5
Yeh, ain't it great Danny, we can show off our old iron and know there will always be someone seeing it for the first time. Not my first car but my high school 57 BelAir, only had a mild 283, but the 4 speed and 4.11's made up for it. How it looked in 1970 when I bought it. Yep, been cutting up perfectly good cars for 50 years.
I built this when I was 16. W ish I had a better picture of it. The front end was nosed with frenched headlights and a 55 ford grill.
No doubt, I can't think of any subject that hasn't been discussed many times, I am as guilty as anyone. My first was a 1932 5 window coupe, in 1962. HRP
The one I have now, my 26 Ford coupe I have had for 22 yrs. Every thing before that was muscle cars.....
Bought this car when I was 14 years old with my own hard earned money and did all work myself except paint and upholstery. That is why my current rod has no repaint paint or upholstery.
A '34 Ford coupe with a 392 Chrysler Hemi in 1962. But it was too radical for the street so I soon replaced it with a '54 Studebaker coupe with a 283/270 horse Corvette engine.
I started out small with this $50 1950 Crestliner. Original block was cracked so Dad and I built a 53 Merc motor for it.I was 16. The engine now had tubular headers thanks to some guy my dad worked with and I bought a $15 Offy 4 barrel setup for it. I only have photos of the day I brought it home April 18th, 1964 and it looks ROUGH! I bought a parts car with a nice grill and hood, decklid, bumpers and some more parts.
1972 : put a 221" sbf into a '46 Studebaker M5 with 9" '57Mercury rear(same bolt pattern as the Studebaker). Painted Earl Scheib "butterscotch yellow".
