I have been searching the interweb for a headliner for my 48 Chevy coupe and there are a lot of choices from different sites. My question is which is better and easier to install, foam backed cloth or vinyl material? Any help will be appreciated.
Foam backed cloth would be glued to a rigid roof liner. Vinyl could also be glued or have bow sleeves sewn in for that type of install. One isn't necessarily better or easier than the other. Pretty sure LeBaron Bonney Co. could make up whatever you want.
Original would have been cloth. I prefer vinyl for ease of care, just wipe it down if it gets dirty. Should be able to find either material already sewn up with bow loops. I’ve put in two, VW bug and a two door Maverick. Always start from the rear, streatching as you go. A steamer or heat gun can help with wrinkles. And be patient and take your time!
Your Chevy should have a stationary bow in the middle. Tack at the front and rear. Then start tacking(tucking) the outer edges from the middle bow and move outwards from there.
